we started breaking the news last night. we were going to try to wait for the end of the first trimester (yeah, like i thought i could wait that long), but since i was going to have to quit hockey, the frozen a$$ets would know what was going on and we figured our families should know first. i called my mom tuesday night…she was so excited. i called my sister & dad wednesday morning. when i told emily that cooper was getting a little brother or sister, she said “that’s great. please don’t call before 7am next time”. um, she thought we were getting another dog. but when she found out i was knocked up, she was appropriately excited. lucky for her, otherwise i would have kicked her a$$.
next call was to the captain of my hockey team. i was dreading this call. i seriously had not thought this would happen so quickly and thus jeapordize my ability to finish the hockey season. i knew we didn’t have a backup in place for the remainder of the season and i half expected lisa to say “so?” when i told her the news. however, she was surprisingly supportive and told me not to worry about a thing. by 10a that morning she had subs lined up for the rest of the season. i sort of felt expendable at that point but glad the team would be covered. lisa had the quote of the week; her response when i said i hadn’t expected it to happen so fast: “well, rick’s got a good shot.”
