We just returned from a fun road-trip to Chicago via the train; it was Rick & Mallory’s first time on the train and they both did very well. With gas prices being so high, and parking in Chicago being so expensive, it totally made sense for us to rail it west.
Only two things on our agenda: deep-dish pizza and fun with my cousins. The original plan was to go to a Cubs game but the games are all sold out. I wasn’t sure if they were *really* sold out or sold out like Michigan games are, where you can usually …

All done
Mallory is showing flashes of my personality. Up until now she has been all Rick – VERY easy going, mellow, laid-back, go-with-the-flow, etc. But just the past week or so, she isn’t afraid to let us know she does NOT want another sip of apple juice or her pacifier or another bite of food – and she chooses to tell us this by sweeping her arm across her highchair tray or giving you a kung-foo arm to swat the cup away. I better go look up “all done” in my baby signing books. I think that should be our next …
We are in trouble
Rick & I are busy and we have a shedding dog and don’t care to spend a ton of time keeping our house super-spotless. If the dog chews off a piece of kong, it may stay there a few days until we run the vacuum. Same with the dog hair that seems to collect in the corners of the kitchen.
This all changed over the weekend. Mobile Mallory crawled to find herself a chunk of kong and I got to her *just* as she was putting it in her mouth; apparently she is unaware that it won’t taste good and it …
Crawl-crawl-crawl-pull up…plop
This is Mallory’s new daily agenda: Crawl-crawl-crawl-pull up…plop…crawl-crawl-crawl-pull up…plop…crawl-crawl-crawl-pull up…plop. There is a little room for eating and drinking and we have finally hit the stage where sleeping isn’t interesting because there is too much to see and do.
This morning she slept in way later than usual so I thought I should make sure she was OK – I peeked in at her and she was lying on her tummy, playing with the Aquarium thingy that is hanging in her crib (there is a button you push and the fish swim around). This is the first time I’ve seen her even …
Vindicating Cooper
I feel Cooper deserves a fair post showing off what an unbelievably cool dog he is. He is clingy and drives me CRAZY almost all of the time, but he is pretty awesome in a lot of ways. Here is a little list of the funny things he does:
*Every night before bed, I put Vaseline on my lips. Starting from when Cooper was a little puppy sleeping on our bed, I’d put a little on his nose or whatever. To this day, no matter where Cooper is in the house, if I am in bed and pop the top off …
Mallory on the Move
Mallory started crawling last night.
I’ll post more later if I have any spare time after chasing my 8-mo old around the house.
:-)
So tired
I don’t even know what to write. I am still laughing at my daughter.
Timeline:
*put Mallory to sleep in her crib
*hear Mallory squawk but only for a minute
*go check on Mallory an hour later before heading upstairs
*find Mallory passed out asleep, doing a face-plant into the bumpers (I didn’t even know she knew how to sit up from a lying down position!)
*start laughing and run *quietly* to the living room to get Rick
*try to keep Cooper quiet as we hustle back to see her
*Rick gets video while I snap pictures
This is probably why they say bumpers are bad to have in …
Cooper-Duper
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Cooper and Mallory and how they will hopefully grow up to be the best of friends. It then got me thinking about Cooper’s behavior of late.
For the first 1.5 years, he earned full run of the house. We carefully did this in stages: crate all day & night; crate all day, with us at night; blocked off in the entryway all day, full run of the house at night; allowed in entryway & upstairs during the day, full run at night; then full run all day every day. The only things he ever …
19+1=Too many shoes?
Is it possible?
Can it be?
Does Mallory have too many shoes?
You be the judge.
These are all shoes that fit her now. The good news is that I only bought the pink pair in the very first row. The rest are courtesy of K’s Kloset. How happy are we that Doug & Sue didn’t have another girl?!?! My sister is a good source of girl hand-me-downs too – we call those the Lauren Collection.

We are starting to wonder if Mallory is going to bypass crawling and move right to walking. She has learned that she can move by rolling but if she’s …
For the Record
In our “Melloland” post, we incorrectly stated that Mallory had her first non-family babysitter on Saturday June 30th. Mallory’s first visit to a non-family babysitter was actually back in February when Mike & Rachel watched her while I played hockey. We apologize for the inaccuracy of our reporting.
