I’ve started taking this blog in a different direction than was originally intended. I planned on it being a journal about Mallory and her developments but it’s morphed into a journal about family life. I think that’s OK but for some reason it bugs me a little.
Anyway, Rick’s family was in town for the weekend for the game and to see Mallory (hopefully not in that order?). We only see them a couple of times a year so it was good to spend some time with them. Mallory warmed up to them all right away and is happy to show off her new walking skills to anyone who will watch.
Mallory hung out at the tailgate during the Michigan game on Saturday with Rick’s step-mom Terry. Terry is a techno-geek like me so I was getting pictures texted to me during the game :-)
Aunt Nancy & Uncle Eddie, geared up for the game
On Sunday after breakfast, we all went to the little farmer’s market/pumpkin farm near our house – Mallory got to see baby goats, horses and chickens. Rick was trying to get the baby goats to eat leaves out of Mallory’s hands, and Mallory was trying to pet the goats like she does Cooper (which means a thwack on the back). I was trying to not get too grossed out by the dirty animals and just let Mallory enjoy them but as soon as we got back to the car, I HAD to wipe her hands off!
Walking with dad in our little downtown. I’m so happy that she still looks little :-)

On Saturday Mallory learned how to stand up without needing something to pull up on. So — in the course of two weeks — she’s gone from taking her first steps to being independently mobile. I was trying to figure out when I could say “she’s walking” as opposed to “she’s taking steps”, and she is quickly getting to where walking is her preferred method of transportation – sometimes even demanding it when we are trying to carry her (which works great for me since she is a chunky monkey). She still swats at your hands if you are trying to stabilize her and wants to do it all by herself. She has mastered the “elevation changes” of our first floor – hardwood, hardwood with a rug, carpet, threshold into tile, etc – she stops to assess the terrain in front of her and makes sure she has her balance and then off she goes. She is still a little wobbly – Rick & I took her to Friday’s last night after my softball game, and Mals was walking holding on to Rick’s finger, and Rick joked “Hey Mallory…you’re walking into Fridays just like how daddy used to walk out of Fridays!”. I’m so sure.
she is so adorable – i can’t believe her walking, i LOVE that picture of her and rick walking – she is so cute and you are right, she looks SO cute and little!!!
