Really? People are *really* asking me this question? Are you kidding me? Michigan lost to a division 2 school and people really think I had a good weekend?
I don’t normally care about the outcomes of the game – I enjoy the atmosphere, the band and spending time with my friends tailgating and a win on Saturday afternoons in the fall is icing on the cake. Of course I want Michigan to win every game but this loss hurts more than any other that I can remember. Yes, even more than losing to OSU the day after Bo died last fall. All of the promise and all of the hype that surrounded this season with Henne & Hart & Long coming back for their senior season…gone. I have to give so much credit to Mike Hart – he refused to point any fingers in his post game press conference. I can’t imagine how upset he is inside.
Anyway, on to other things. Turns out Mallory isn’t a big fan of football Saturdays. It messed with her nap schedule too much and it’s hard to fall asleep in the middle of 109,000 people when the sun is beating down on you, making the mid-80s temps seem way hotter. I spent the first quarter in our seats trying to get her to fall asleep, the second quarter sitting in the shade out on the concourse trying to get her to fall asleep, finally deciding to leave at halftime, only to have her fall asleep the second we left the stadium. She had fun at the tailgate, we brought her little walker toy so she was back and forth and back and forth, with a few stops here & there so she could let go and practice her balancing, all day long.
The rest of our weekend did end up being OK. Got to go out on the boat both days – the weather was gorgeous. Mallory is into this separation anxiety phase and it’s about to drive me batty. God forbid I set her down for one second to go to the bathroom or run upstairs, or – the horror – hand her off to her dad. It might be teeth coming in or because she is about to start walking – but whatever it is, I really hope it’s temporary. What happened to my easy laid-back kid?
I’ll post pictures tonight of Mallory at her first Big House tailgate.
