I’ll preface this post with a disclaimer that I am *incredibly* superstitious when it comes to sports. When I was playing hockey, I had to sit next to Lisa in the lockerroom, I had to be the first one on the ice for warm-ups, I had to eat a pepperoni pan pizza from Pizza Hut every game day. With Michigan football, I have to wear the same shirt, necklace, shoes every game. I leave for the game exactly one hour before kickoff. I get a piece of pepperoni pizza at the game. I cross my fingers at the start of the game, then if something doesn’t go Michigan’s way I switch which fingers I have crossed. I could go on and on, but you get the drift.
Phew. Finally a win under our belt. Notre Dame looked sort of brutal but at least it’s a win. I traded Mallory for my nephew for this week’s game, and I have to say that taking a 10-mo old to the games is a lot easier than taking a 6-yr old.
Holy COW. “Can I have another cherry life saver? Can I have another cherry life saver? Can I have another cherry life saver? Can I have another cherry life saver? Can I have another cherry life saver? Can I have another cherry life saver?”, until there were no more cherry life savers left. Then he made my mom empty her entire fanny pack because he thought she was lying when she told him there weren’t any more cherry life savers to eat.
So, since Mallory didn’t make it in to the game, we are wondering if she is the reason they have lost the first two games this season. Or is it because Sue K & her kids didn’t come to the tailgate? Or is it because my dad & I finally got our pre-game “Hail Victors? Hail Yes!” exchange figured out? Or is it because CBC’s mom & stepdad were in from the east coast for the game? It could be because I finally remembered to wear the right shoes and got my mid-game slice of pizza. Lisa & I do a full examination of the day to figure out what worked & what didn’t work and try to decide what made the difference out on the football field. Yes, we are nuts, and we are fully aware that we are nuts.
But one thing we are wondering about is this — did Michigan win because of Mallory’s eye black?
And another aside…she loves to eat. There isn’t a single thing she won’t eat – our new favorite treat is an apple cut up on my fancy Pampered Chef Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer. Mallory will eat slice after slice, not slowing down to swallow. (She has a mouth full of apple, and that is apple juice dripping down her chin…)
The result of her loving to eat? In the next picture, she is wearing a 12-mo shirt that keeps riding up over her tummy, and those are 12-18 month jeans that won’t stay up over her bottom :-)
i love those photos!!! you are so funny with all your little rituals – it is so fun to learn those things about you – phil and i both loved that video of mallory walking between you guys- she is so cute! i just got that pampered chef thing for the apples from a friend to make jack applesauce – i haven’t used it yet but it looks like she loves apples!
