Mallory

Feeling More Better…

I think we are in the clear or at least have “the clear” in our sights. Mallory is 8-million times better than she was on Monday. She is chatty and laughing and crawling and standing and taking a few steps but isn’t back to 100% yet (I’ll consider her 100% better when she is marching around the house with her favorite plastic spatula, heading straight for Cooper’s water dish). We’ll see how she is Wednesday and hopefully we can cancel our appointment Thursday with the pediatric orthopedist.

We had a scare today though – I called the pediatric orthopedist to give them the update on Mallory from Monday night – that she seemed worse than she did on Sunday, etc. They told us they wanted us to admit her for “a couple of days”. I started to cry and wondered if I was overreacting about Mallory’s situation. I called daycare to see how she was and they said she was in GREAT spirits and walking a bit and crawling all over. After talking to Rick (who was already on his way to get her from daycare…I guess my tears scared him), and consulting with my nurse sister, who in turn consulted with Mallory’s pediatric orthopedist (it’s so great to have connections), we decided that in light of her improvement we could hold off on bringing her in to the hospital. Thank GOD. The orthopedist is WONDERFUL – told me I could call her anytime day or night with concerns or questions.

Anyway — one of the more important questions I asked the doctors today was if we had clearance to go to Mallory’s first swim class tonight and everyone gave us the thumbs up. We very quickly established that Mallory’s favorite part of class is sitting on the side of the pool and falling into my arms. Then she squirms out of my arms and tries to get herself back to the edge, where she grabs the side of the pool and tries to crawl out and do it all over again. She laughs and giggles when she hits the water, with no cares that she is getting splashed in the face. I can’t wait until next week to take her again. :-)
