Obviously my kid isn’t starving so it’s not like we had to find ways to finish her meal, but I keep trying new things and see if it works to help her develop new skilz so Mallory got a new prop this weekend: a bowl that suction cups to her highchair tray. The gadget worked – she ate her ENTIRE bowl of shells & cheese, even trying to eat some with her fork. A couple of notes: top middle picture – her bowl is empty and she is looking for a refill; bottom left – empty bowl again but then she still tries to scoop some out with her fork. What I didn’t get pictures of is the pudding I gave her for dessert. She wouldn’t let me feed it to her out of the Gerber container. I had to dump it into the bowl on her high chair and then give her two spoons. She really tried to get some pudding her in mouth, but usually it was dripping down her arm by the time she got the spoon close to her mouth, so then she just licked her arm. As Rick says, the great ones adjust (which he usually says to me when I start freaking out about plans or schedules changing at the last minute).
Tonight we tried again with some turkey and veggies in her bowl. A couple of times she wouldn’t get anything on her spoon at all, but the spoon would still end up near her mouth and she’d make-believe she was eating (imagine you trying to get a baby to eat something…so you pretend to put the spoon to your own mouth and then pretend to gobble it up — that is what she was doing, along with the occasional “mmmmmmmmmmm”). Rick & I were beside ourselves giggling at her.
A couple of more funny cousin stories. Mals was at my bro-in-law’s on Wednesday and started a huge hissy fit in the kitchen because Uncle Mikey wouldn’t let her play with all the spices in the lazy susan. I guess she was kicking her feet and just SCREAMING. Mike said he just left her there and went and sat in the living room. Mallory stopped screaming so Mikey assumed she’d either gone back to the lazy susan or was ready to come play again. But oh no…she is her mother’s daughter so she walked herself into the living room, plopped down on the floor in front of Uncle Mike, and started right up again with the hissy fit. That’s my girl :-)
Then later, Mikey was reading a book to Mallory & Lauren. Lauren was pointing at all the animals and saying “SHASHA” (their dog’s name and what she calls all animals) and Mallory was pointing to the same animals and saying “BUH-PEE” (her word for all animals).
PS – The shiner on her forehead is courtesy of Gigi’s front step. Mallory took a header on Sunday and had a golf-ball size goose-egg along with the straight-line darker purple bruise/cut. Hopefully that clears up before her one-yr pictures next weekend or Gigi is in trouble.
