Mallory

Late November, 2007

Wow did last week go fast.

After having some normal family time (i.e. I had my husband home for dinner three nights in a row!), we headed south to spend Thanksgiving with Rick’s mom and aunt/uncle/cousins. We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express which for some reason not as relaxing as they advertise…could be because we were sharing a room with a one-year-old? Anyway, the funniest thing was the round data boxes that were flush with the floor in the hallway outside our hotel room door: Mallory would go right to them and stand on them, deliberately putting her two little feet on it. We were laughing at her so hard – it was as though she was trying to transport herself. Of course as soon as I got the camera out, off she went. Blah. Mallory got to meet Rick’s cousins and their kids. Her first cousin-twice removed, Will, had an OSU jersey on and Mallory kept trying to tackle him. That was pretty funny too. We couldn’t get her to say “GO BOO” for all the Buckeyes in the group, though.

We came back home late Friday night (thanks to everyone for keeping us posted on the LSU score…) and had Thanksgiving with my family on Saturday. Mallory has so much fun playing with my sister’s kids – normally if she is with them it’s because I am somewhere else so it was fun to watch them together on Saturday. Liam kept grabbing at Mallory’s dress, Mallory kept patting Liam on the head and saying “baby”, Lauren wanted to play with whatever toy Mallory had, and Shane played lacrosse with Rick outside.

We were able to put up our outdoor Christmas decorations and some of our indoor ones this weekend. Rick thinks we should get a real tree (so funny to hear this from the anti-holiday-Scrooge I met 5 yrs ago!) but we’re still debating where this real tree will go. I have a goal to turn our computer room into a 100% playroom for Mallory so her toys don’t take over our living room. So with most of Mallory’s toys relocated, we have a little more room for a tree in the living room. Who knows.

In Mallory news…she has started to run. This usually results in a goose-egg on her forehead but she is fearless. She won’t cry when she falls down, unless she fell down because the dog made her fall down. Then it’s all over…it’s as though she knows he’ll get in trouble for knocking her over so she turns it on & up. Can’t help but laugh.

And I think one of the sign-language signs we have been using has finally sunk in. After dinner we strip her down to her diaper – she does a lap around the house and then we ask if she’s ready for a bath. She comes running to the bathroom rubbing her chest & belly. I don’t know if it’s because she is cold but I just realized that maybe she is doing the sign for bath!

There are a million other things to write about but I can’t think of them right now. And I have a ton of pictures…maybe later this week.

  1. can’t wait for the pictures! jack just discovered the “bath” too – if we ask him if he wants to take a bath he gets down and goes from wherever he is in the house and pounds on his bathroom door! i have some more stuff like that to blog tonight! we turned our old office into a toy-room too and it really helped the clutter – plus it is all safe so we can just lay on pillows and he can run around and play!
