Ok, this is a totally true story. Whether you choose to believe what I say I saw is up to you:
I finished up my Christmas shopping this weekend. When we got home, Mallory started to eat lunch while I started to unpack all my bags. I walked past her with the triangular shaped crayons I bought her (I’ve heard they are good for plane rides because they don’t roll off the tray) and dropped them in her stocking, you know, just helping Santa get a head start. Anyway, I turned around and saw Mallory watching me. I said “Hey Mals, you didn’t see what I just did, did you?”. Mallory then threw her hands to her face, peek-a-boo style, as if to say “I wasn’t watching, mama!”. I laughed a long time about that. I still am laughing about it right now, actually, 18 hours later. My mom doesn’t believe me, she thinks Mallory’s eye must have been twitching or something and that’s why she covered her face. But then again, my mom didn’t see what I saw, did she?

We got DUMPED on with about 10 inches of snow in the last day. It just kept coming and coming and coming. Cooper enjoyed a good walk – he looked like an old man with all the snow on him, all salt-and-peppery. We wanted to take Mallory out but by the time she had a nap and lunch, the wind had really picked up and we thought it might be too chilly for her. I think this snow will be here for a few days so we’ll play another day.
Two new Mallory & Cooper stories for the archives:
- I’ve written before about how Mals likes to back up onto your lap. We have tried to get her to sit next to Cooper or on Cooper’s “lap”, but Cooper is usually anxious to get away from her poking so it never works out. But today, Rick & I were busy in the kitchen and Mallory was following Cooper around (she is OBSESSED with his shiny dog tag). He finally laid down and stayed still long enough for Mallory to sit on his lap…here she is, with her *very* patient puppy. Editor’s note: I certify that this is a totally unstaged photo.
- Mallory is now 13+ months old and Super-Coop has not once growled or shown any aggression to the pumpkin. Well, we found out today what sets Cooper off: apparently he doesn’t like it when Mallory crawls & steps over him and squishes his little willy. Ooops. Cooper just gave her a little warning growl; I am not worried that he would have done anything more than that even if I hadn’t been right there to simultaneously shush him and remove Mallory from standing on his willy.
We celebrated Christmas with my family today; everyone came out to the lake and we crammed in our little living room to open presents. Mallory got a doll that, according to Shane “can get wet”, some sorting blocks and a little shopping cart with pretend boxes of food. Mallory & Lauren fought over all of Mallory’s presents, while all the adults fought over the present that Shane & his dad got…a Nintendo Wii!! My sister & I played a couple games of tennis and I swear my shoulder is sore. Rick & Mikey fought through a few rounds of boxing, and both of them were sweating afterwards. My mom & dad played golf, and Shane played everyone in bowling. Rick & I are debating getting a Wii for us but I’m not sure I need another electronic thing to be addicted to. I guess the good thing about the Wii is that it isn’t a classic sit on your tush, brain-drain video game. You actually have to stand up and do stuff. We’ll see.
Speaking of sitting on my tush, brain-draining ~ it’s way past my bedtime. Good night.
