I HATE MOSQUITOS. The only good thing about them is that they mean summer is coming (or is already here). Mallory & I took Coops on a little woods walk and the bugs were out in full force ~ I got my first bite of the season tonight and it’s so annoying. We may have to break down and get the bug cover for the carrier.
There was something else I was going to post about but it must not have been very important because I can’t remember what it was. The baby is taking a nap and Cooper is passed out too. …

Happy Mother's Day to me!
Still can’t believe I have a kid. When I say this out loud, Rick responds with “Oh, you better believe it”. Thanks.
I had a great first Mother’s Day. My family gave me some awesome gifts and it was fun to spend the day just hanging out. Mallory got me some BEAUTIFUL flowers and a book I wanted, Rick got me a gift certificate to the spa (yeah – pedicures!) and Cooper got me (or him??) a travel dog bed that we’d been eyeing for the back of my car. We went to dinner with my mom and my sister & …
Launch
Today is a big day! Our boat is in the water and Rick & our neighbor are putting in our boatlift as I type. The boat fired right up this spring and Rick made it across the lake back to our house, so we hope to go for our first cruise of the season this weekend. We have a life jacket for Princess Pumpkin Head already. Let’s hope she likes the water and boating; we may be in trouble if she doesn’t.
Mallory made me a cute flower at daycare for my first Mother’s Day. The “leaves” are her handprints, the …
16#s, 2'-1.5"
Those are Mallory’s new 6-month stats. So in 6 months she has doubled her birth weight and grown 5.5 inches. The doctor seemed very happy with her growth and development and told us to keep up what we’re doing. Our little girl got high marks for social development – she was waving her hand at the doctor and the doctor kept laughing saying “it really looks like she is waving ‘HI’!!”. She was very smiley up until her shots and promptly fell asleep in the car on the way home.
We learned a new term yesterday at daycare: “lava poop”. I guess …
Happy Half-Birthday, Sweet Baby Girl!
Mallory is SIX MONTHS OLD today!! People aren’t kidding when they say time flies when you have a baby.
In honor of her half-birthday, Mallory has two teeth that decided to make an appearance! Her right bottom front was the first to break through and the left one came through the next day. For some reason, this little milestone is more “real” than any other milestone so far ~ she really is growing up. Pretty soon she’ll be crawling, walking, going to kindergarten, graduating from high school and college and then I’ll finally be able to embarrass her with all these funny …
What a mess
Mallory likes her Gerber Biter Biscuits. On my sister’s recommendation, we have learned that it buys us a few minutes in her high chair while we get our dinners ready. However, as you can see, it makes a big ole mess. You can also see that she doesn’t care that she’s a big ole mess. We had to do a pre-soak before bath time and even then I don’t think I got all of the cookie off her face (click on the picture for a bigger version).
Her half-birthday is on Sunday and her next doctor’s appointment is Tuesday. We …
Little Hand on the 7
We’ve been trying to teach Mallory to stay in bed on the weekends until the little hand is on the 7. I know that at only 5+ months, she might be a little young to learn this, but she is obviously advanced because her grandpa is an engineer: she didn’t start making noise until 7:01am this morning! (This may not be sleeping in for some people but since I normally get up at 4:45a, I was in heaven.) We brought Mallory to bed with us and fed her and she talked to Cooper ~ I think she was taunting him, saying …
Pretty Baby
Here is a picture from this past weekend…we were able to hang out in the yard and enjoy the sunshine. Mallory received her first sunscreen application and while she spent most of her time inside her 50 SPF tent, I let her come out to catch some rays with me for a few minutes :-)
My Grandpa is an Engineer
It’s sort of a joke with my friends that I’m good with directions and figuring stuff out because my dad is an engineer. So last fall I made a onesie for the baby that said “My Grandpa is an Engineer” and Mallory debuted it when she was less than a week old.
But last week she really showed us that she is an engineer’s granddaughter. She was sitting up in her bouncy seat (one of her new favorite things because that way she can play with the toys better) and became very interested in the noise and zeroed in on the speaker. …
Water Baby
What a fun Saturday. Rick & I spent the day running errands with Mallory.
First stop was Shane’s soccer game, which meant we got to see my sister and Lauren and new baby Liam. Lauren is obsessed with Mallory, trying to undo the carseat buckles so Mallory can come out and play, handing and taking away Mallory’s blankie, pacifier, book, toy, etc. They are going to grow up to be great friends, I’m sure of it :-)
Our next stop was to my mom’s to deposit stuff in our off-site storage (aka my mom’s basement). Mallory was all smiles and giggles for Gigi, it was so …
