Mallory’s new trick…we still have to teach her to take a big drink after clinking our cups.

Funny Girls
Wednesdays are a special day for Mallory – my sister’s husband stays home with their kids and this fall he is watching Mals on Wednesdays. The first couple of weeks were a little tough for everyone – Mallory was pretty clingy and wouldn’t sleep. But I think she’s starting to adapt to spending a whole day with two of her cousins – 2-yr old Lauren and 5-mo old Liam (poor Shane misses the chaos because he’s in 1st grade).
Anyway, today when I picked up Mallory – Mikey had two stories for me. Story #1: I guess Rick didn’t warn him …
Back to basics?
I’ve started taking this blog in a different direction than was originally intended. I planned on it being a journal about Mallory and her developments but it’s morphed into a journal about family life. I think that’s OK but for some reason it bugs me a little.
Anyway, Rick’s family was in town for the weekend for the game and to see Mallory (hopefully not in that order?). We only see them a couple of times a year so it was good to spend some time with them. Mallory warmed up to them all right away and is happy to show …
New Stuff
I need to get these down on “paper” before I forget:
When it’s bathtime, Mallory will get herself to the tub and then try to pull her shirt up and will help me by stepping out of her pants. Then when she’s stripped down to her diaper, she’ll look down at it, as though she is telling me “um, Mom? a little help here, please”. All this while she’s standing next to the tub contemplating throwing her leg over the “boards”, hockey-style, to get into the tub.
I think we had a couple of comprehension breakthroughs yesterday: (1) I asked her where …
Phew
I’ll preface this post with a disclaimer that I am *incredibly* superstitious when it comes to sports. When I was playing hockey, I had to sit next to Lisa in the lockerroom, I had to be the first one on the ice for warm-ups, I had to eat a pepperoni pan pizza from Pizza Hut every game day. With Michigan football, I have to wear the same shirt, necklace, shoes every game. I leave for the game exactly one hour before kickoff. I get a piece of pepperoni pizza at the game. I cross my fingers at the start of …
0-3
I hate to admit it, but my kid might be bad luck for the Wolverines. She went to the Rose Bowl, and UM lost. Went to Appalachain State game, UM lost. And then she went to the Oregon game last weekend – she lasted the whole game and I was proud that we stayed until the end, even though we lost again (after the game, Mike Hart said: “I think the fans who stayed until the end of the game and weren’t booing, those are the real Michigan fans and the fans I care about.”)
So, she may be bad luck, …
Mobile Mallory, the sequel
She is walking. Well, walking between her mom & dad who are crazily cheering her along, but she is taking steps. This is so exciting yet so frightening!! I don’t know if it actually qualifies as her “walking” but I’m putting September 9 down in the baby book :-)
Stinker
Mallory helped me do a little redecorating yesterday. To be honest, I’m a little suprised I was able to keep those pictures on the window sill for this long.
she is looking to see that all of the pictures are down…
and then tries to put them back!

The pumpkin is 10 months old this week. One of my friends is pregnant with twins and asked me what the hardest part is, do I miss the days of it just being Rick, Cooper & me, and when does it finally become real that you’re having a baby.
I told her the hardest part was in the beginning, not having any fricking clue what the problem is when she was crying. Is it because she’s tired/hungry/wet/gassy/colicky? I also have a hard time being the primary caregiver due to Rick’s work schedule; I think getting married later and being an older …
A couple of pictures
I am a little late posting these pictures of Mallory’s first date with Kyle from last week. Kyle is 13-mos old and a total charmer. He & Mallory enjoyed appetizers of blueberries & goldfish, and a main dish of chicken pasta. They were so cute at dinner :-) These pictures are after they did a little post-dinner shopping.
And here are some pictures from the pre- & postgame tailgate on Saturday:
With daddy on his pre-game golfcart (I must point out that this child loves any steering wheel she can get her hands on!)
Trying to get Miss Mallory asleep…somewhere in …
