Punky-Poo-Loo has a new nickname: Robin Hood. She will go into the coin jar in our closet, grab as many coins as she can (somehow it ends up being mostly quarters?) and will then go down to her room to put the coins in her piggy bank. She probably “makes” about a dollar a day. Smart girl.

Ok – I love snow. Really, I really do. But for crying out loud – can it stop? We are supposed to get 1-4 inches tonight. I am done-done-done with the snow.

I big-fat-puffy-heart it when my kid goes to bed at night. I love playing and talking and being with her but I am so proud of how well she goes down at night, I can’t stand it. We usually wait for Rick to get home to do dinner-bath-bed, but when he works later than his normal late, she & I eat dinner at a reasonable hour and that translates into a 7p bedtime for her. So tonight she wasn’t as exhausted as she normally is at bedtime and I was afraid she would give me a problem. But nope – not my good sleeper. After a reading of Fancy Nancy (big surprise), I put her in her crib but left the door cracked so I could easily spy on her. As I left the room, she was sitting up, reading books and playing with her aquarium thing. I don’t know how long it took her to fall asleep but I just went in to check on her an hour later and she is curled up in a corner, with her bear blankie clenched in her hands. She looks so incredibly sweet when she is sleeping, it makes me want to sit and watch her all night.
Oh, that reminds me – as we were getting ready for bed, she was following me around with her Fancy Nancy book and I thought she had dropped her bear blankie in the laundry room. So I said “Oh no! You dropped your blankie!”. But then she held her hand up with her bear blankie (like she was holding up a catch from a deep-sea-fishing-adventure) to let me know that she didn’t lose her bear blankie. She was so funny…it was so deliberate how she wanted to make sure I saw it. She makes me laugh.

One of her other favorite books is “Moo Baa La-la-la”. I know it by heart so I find myself reciting it to her in the car. “A cow says mooooo” (Mallory responds “mmmmm”)…A sheep says baaa (aaaaaahhhh) and three singing pigs say la-la-la (lalalalala). No no you say? (shakes her head) That isn’t right? Pigs say oink! all day & night (snort)…Rhnioceruses snort and snuff and little dogs go ruff-ruff-ruff (uff-uff!) Some other dogs go bow-wow-wow (wowowowowowow) and cats and kittens say meow (mow). Quack says the…(GUCK!), a horse says neigh…it’s quiet now, what do you say?”
And yes, I did just write out an entire Sandra Boynton book. Perhaps I’ll share “The Bellybutton Book” with you someday. Here’s a teaser “…it’s Belly Button Beach! Where tons of hippos stand around in bathing suits too little…because they hope you will admire the buttons on their middle!” How can you not love Sandra Boynton books?
i love both of those books – we try to say “cow says ___________” and let him fill in the blanks – which he did for like 5 times but now he is so excited about the la la la part that every one is “la la la” – we have also been so blessed with a wonderful sleeper – i love the 13 hours a night and the nice 3 hour nap! i hope our future kids are the same (:
