All About Me

Here is a post all about me. Since I gave up hockey after Zulu* was born due to scheduling conflicts and having to be at work so early, etc, I haven’t had anything that was just me. I missed the camaraderie of my teammates more than I missed playing hockey and mostly I missed having something to call my own. So Rick encouraged me to finally take that photography class that I’ve been talking about for, oh, about 5.5 years.

First class was last night – and it was so fun! We have a small digital point & shoot camera and a digital SLR. I have always just used the auto settings on both of them because I was clueless. After just one class I already feel so much smarter about my camera (our teacher told us that all the auto settings on our cameras were bad-bad-bad!). Unfortunately Mallory was already asleep when I got home so I couldn’t practice my new f/stop and shutter speed and ISO knowledge by taking pictures of her but I can’t wait to start snapping. This is great – I will take more & more pictures that I don’t have time to scrapbook. LOL!

Today is RB’s birthday. Mallory & I went to one of his favorite stores yesterday in search of a gift (they just opened an REI in our town!). He is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for – he is so particular about the stuff he wants for biking, kayaking, hiking, swimming, whatever, that I am afraid to try to pick anything out. I thought maybe it would be fun to get one of those bike trailers so he can haul Mallory around the metropark but at $300+ I figured he’d kill me. Then I thought I’d get one of those bike seats that mounts on the back of your bike (we can put on my bike) but that was $100, also too much money for something that we’d probably barely use.

I was going to tell you what I did end up getting him but at risk of him actually reading this blog, I will not share here. But I will show you what I did buy for Mallory at REI: this hat. Can you stand how cute it is? She actually likes it and was wearing it last night – I can’t stand it. Pictures to follow (and be sure to tell me how impressed you are with my use of f/stop, shutter speed and ISO).

*Zulu is my new nickname for Mallory – here is the evolution: Pumpkin, Punkin, Punky-poo, Punky Poo Loo, Punky Poo Zoo Loo and now it’s just Zulu.
