Today is my birthday…
I love having my birthday on April Fool’s day…it seems like I get the most random birthday emails from the most random people…usually along the lines of “how could I forget your birthday…it’s the day of fools!”, etc, etc.
We went to dinner last night at Outback (fancy, schmancy) since we weren’t going to have time to go to a nice dinner tonight because of Rick’s insane work schedule. We usually try to take advantage of the “buy one, get one free on your birthday” meals at the fancy restaurants downtown, or at least hit the ones that give you a free dessert on your birthday. Instead, we used a gift card at Outback; I feel so special.
However, Rick is on his way home from work (at 8:12p) & I texted him that he could bring me home some DQ for my birthday treat. When he called, I told him I wanted a Peanut Buster Parfait. His response? “PARFAIT? ‘AMAZING – my mom knows French!‘”, which is a line out of Mallory’s “Fancy Nancy” book. Dork.

Mallory sort of has a new word – “meh” which means “me”. I ask her “who loves her mom?” and she says “meh!!”. “Who loves her dad?” “MEH!”, etc. But sometimes when I ask her “who loves her mom”, she just points at me. So either she is saying that I love my mom (which I do) or she is just showing me who her mom is.

Oh, and before I forget – I have a whole new appreciation for my mom on this day that is my birthday. When we celebrated Mallory’s birthday last year, I couldn’t help thinking that it was about celebrating me too – I spent a lot of Mallory’s birthday remembering the day 365 days before that I gave birth and those first hours with our sweet baby girl on her real birth day. Then I remember that my mom has those same memories about me when I was born (at least I hope she does!) and it makes me teary to have that bond with my mom. Oh bother, here they start. Gotta go.
ps – my mom really DOES know French…she used to teach French back in the day :-)
happy birthday!! sounds like you had a great day (:
