Spring Cleaning

I had a relaxing family-free sick day today; Rick & Mallory got home late this afternoon after hanging out at the softball game. When they got home, Rick wanted to do some spring cleaning in the yard and I begged him to keep Mallory with him. I was feeling a little better at this point but not well enough to listen to “mamamamamama” and “upupupupupupupupup” non-stop. But I was feeling well enough to try to do a little cleaning inside ~ when I was putting clothes away in Mallory’s room, this is what I saw outside her window:

(That is the pooper-scooper in Mallory’s hands; gross, I know.)

This is new ground, literally. Mallory has never been a big fan of walking on the snow/ice we had all winter and has still been sort of wary of the uneven terrain of the grass in our yard. But just the past few weeks she has wanted to be outside all the time. If Rick is out grilling dinner, she goes and gets her coat & shoes and brings them to me get her dressed to go out. Rick is usually grilling by himself (the dog prefers to stay inside with me for some reason, usually because I’m doing stuff with food in the kitchen and he thinks I might drop some) so I think it’s so cute that she wants to be out there – just walking around the yard chattering to herself.

We have a little slide thing (sort of like this but older and not so fancy) and now that it’s not covered in snow and the ground has sort of dried out, I set it up for her to play on. She tried climbing the wrong way up the slide (like she can do on the little slide they have in her room at daycare) but that didn’t work so well and she couldn’t figure how to get to the top. It took a little help from me showing her how to duck under the arch in order to climb to the top, and once she figured out she went down that slide about twenty times. At the bottom I would say “tada!” and she’d throw her little hands up in the air. Way too cute.

I am so bummed – we had a full day of stuff planned for today and I didn’t get to do any of it. Rick took Mallory to a party at our friend’s house – a bunch of our group was going to be there with their kids and I was really looking forward to seeing all the Fish kids playing together.
