I have to declare this weekend a success.
Friday night was low-key family night and Rick & I got to watch Survivor from the night before.
On Saturday Rick got a “Rick Day” – I took Mallory with me to a baby shower (where she was darling and well-behaved, I might add) and Rick got to go mountain biking. After that, Rick & our neighbor got half of the dock put in (so we are one step closer to getting our boat in the water!)
Saturday night we went to dinner at Mallory’s BFF’s house. It took the girls about 1.2 seconds to jump right in and start playing like maniacs. Alli was a little territorial over her toys (just as Mallory is at our house) but they had a great time playing. On our way home we asked Mallory if she had fun; she started signing “more-more” and I asked “do you want to play with Alli some more?” and she gave a great big nod. You’d think they would be sick of each other after playing all day everyday at school but I think it’s unbelievably sweet that they are such good friends.
On Sunday morning, the whole fam-damily went for a long hike in the woods (but first Mallory had to try out the carrier ). I had all 29 lbs of Mallory on my back up the first hill and I was trying like mad to keep up a quick pace, and was lifting my legs to try to simulate doing stairs. I was feeling the burn, that is for sure. Once we made it to the flat lands, we got Mallory out of the carrier and she hoofed it with us for about 20 minutes. She collected pine cones, tried to find the perfect stick for Cooper and was generally hysterical. We have to be careful because Cooper tries to find the biggest longest stick he can (sometimes in excess of 6 feet) which can be dangerous with Mallory on the ground.
Then, the highlight of the weekend (for me anyway) – Sunday afternoon – I got to scrapbook! I had to promise Rick that there would be no field trips to Adrian today during my scrapday. I got a whopping five pages done – not a great tally it was something.
The best part? The boat ended up getting uncovered and Rick started cleaning it out and the rest of our dock is in. Hopefully we’ll be boat cruising within a week :-)

A new thing Mallory started doing this weekend was motioning for the dog. We’ve seen her squat and clap and call for Cooper – but this hand motion thing is new.

And then – just because it’s way too funny to listen to her taking a bath – I tried to secretly start recording her (there is no video with this but I can’t figure out how to share just audio):
I have another video of Mallory in the tub from tonight but it is taking forever to upload so we’ll save for another day.

One last story. Mallory still uses a pacifier for bed time and in the car. We are trying to wean her off needing it any other time – so whenever I go retrieve her from her crib after a nap or in the morning, I tell her she needs to leave her paci there. This is usually followed by me picking her up out of the crib and plucking the paci from her mouth against her wishes. But two times today (after a failed nap this morning and a failed first run at bedtime tonight) I went to check on her after listening to her cry for way too long. Both times I found her sobbing with her paci in her mouth and her bear blankie in her hand. When she saw me, she dropped the bear blankie and spit out the paci and then reached for me and said “up…up”. She was totally trying to trick me into thinking it was wakeup time by voluntarily giving up her comfort items. After I stopped giggling to myself, I had to work on getting her back to sleep, with her paci & bear blankie. Such a smart sweet baby girl. I LOVE her.
