Stories out of order but this is the funniest so I have to share first.
Out to dinner tonight (more on that later)…I ordered dessert (Gra.eter’s Chocolate Chocolate Chip ice cream)…asked Mallory if she wanted some and offered her the spoon. She shook her head and said “noooooo” (I think she thought I was trying to sneak her some more sweet potatoes). Then Rick’s mom said “you don’t want any ice cream?”
Apparently “ice cream” is a magic word in Mallory’s world. She whipped her head back around to face me and opened her mouth up wide…took a bite and got a GINORMOUS grin on her face. She is her mother’s daughter.
I’ll have to try “you don’t want any sweet potatoes?” next time.

In RB’s hometown for his race. Turns out the triathlon is a duathlon due to recent rains causing problems with the river he was supposed to swim in.
Mallory was pretty good most the way on our road trip and had a good little nap. She was great at Rick’s mom’s house and then during our excursion to the hotel, etc. We ended up going to Rick’s favorite restaurant for ribs (even though he didn’t eat ribs, his mom & I did), and Mallory was beyond fabulous during our meal. She was cute and smiley and charming and well-behaved – we were able to actually sit and enjoy our dinner (and that great ice cream!) with absolutely no opposition from Mallory. I was so proud of her.
After dinner we went to a little park down by where Rick’s race will be tomorrow. They have an awesome playground so we scoped it out so Rick’s mom & I can take Mals there tomorrow during the race. I’m hoping to bring my book and find a quiet corner in the sun while Rick’s mom chases Mallory around the playground ;-)
Mallory took a quick bath and let Rick read her a book. I was afraid of how she’d go down with us being in a tiny little hotel room – it was about 9.30p and I was nervous it was going to be meltdown city when it came time to put her in the hotel crib. But Rick put her to bed and she rolled over and went right to sleep. Rick was rustling around getting his stuff ready for the morning, and I thought for SURE that was going to prevent her from actually falling asleep but no worries.
Now lets just hope she doesn’t wake up with Rick at 5a tomorrow morning.
