Happy 4th of July!

Ok, so it’s not a real original blog post title but oh well.

Our long holiday weekend started off on Thursday. Thanks to some monster storms that blew through Wednesday night, daycare was without power on Thursday. Rick was already scheduled for a vacation day, and had grand plans of biking, kayaking and windsurfing, but they got squashed just like the fence in our back yard did by the storms. And then it got worse for him when I volunteered him for Alli duty too, since Alli’s folks didn’t have anyone to watch her. :-)

The girls got to see each other Friday too when we joined up with Alli & her parents for the 4th of July parade in their town. Note to self – sit on the OTHER side of the street next year – those people got all the candy & free water!

After the parade we went for a long boat ride up to the Tavern with my mom & dad. The weather was perfect – not too hot but nice & sunny.

2008_07_031 Mallory was great – mostly because my mom entertains her endlessly with whatever goofy game Mallory wants to play. It started out with Mallory “losing” her hands into Gigi’s glasses case. Over & over again my mom would say “Oh no!! Where are Mallory’s hands?” and then Mallory would pull them out of the glasses case and do a little tada! Mals also emptied and repacked Gigi’s purse about a hundred times. We also had a bunch of rounds of Bah Bah Black Sheep, The Wheels on the Bus, and the Hokey Pokey.

When Mallory wants me to sing Bah Bah Black Sheep, she slaps her thighs and says “bah bah mama, bah bah” until I start singing. If I stop, she says “moh bah bah!”.

If she wants me to sing The Wheels on the Bus, she starts rolling her arms, for the round & round that the wheels do.

And the Hokey Pokey is sticking out one leg until I start singing.

So on the boat, we would start singing one, and then she would start with the motions for the next one, all in rapid fire succession. We were all in hysterics.

She was great at the Tavern too – totally adorable and well-behaved with all the other guests around us. One time she went running full bore across the restaurant towards Rick and totally wiped out. We told her to get up and shake it off – she stood up, wiped her hands off (and didn’t cry) and the whole restaurant started to clap for her. So funny.

Here is last years 4th of July boat trip picture compared to this years…who would have thought she would have gotten so much cuter?

2008_07_043 After the boat trip we went to our friends house to watch some fireworks. Cooper was in dog heaven, what with so many of his friends there (there were six dogs total). This is how exhausted Mallory was after her long day.

Mallorian Word of the Day: Oohwawa = another one/other one. She’ll point to one elbow and say belbow, then say “oohwawa” and point to the other one. Or I told her we were going outside and we would get on her other bike. She said “oohwawa bye”.

She’s been saying this for a while but I never knew what she was saying.
