This morning we found Mallory with no less than ELEVEN bites all over her arms and feet (her only exposed skin while wearing her pjs). So she had some sort of hungry spider or mosquito hanging out with her all night last night. The nights are getting cooler so I’m wondering if the bugs are heading indoors or what. Luckily the bites don’t seem to bother her much but I had to call and warn my mom about them so she didn’t lecture me when she sees Mallory later today. “You need to keep those bugs out of her room! You need to vacuum her room thoroughly, wash all her bedding, and SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY!” Blah blah blah. It’s as though she thinks I LIKE seeing my daughter polka-dotted up with big bites.

I decided that for as much as I like summer and hanging out on the lake and all the fireflies, and for as much as I like spring (the days getting longer, the first morning of the spring where you can walk outside in the morning and not have to wear a coat), and for as much as I like winter (big huge snowstorms, freezing cold temps that make it OK to stay in curled up on the couch), I think I really like fall best – the chilly mornings (which contrasts with one of the reasons I like spring!), the anticipation of ready-made social functions with tailgating every weekend. I feel so silly wishing away the long hot days of summer but I can’t get out and enjoy the lake like I used to since I can’t take the boat out by myself with Mallory.
Ah…who am I kidding. I like all the seasons equally and only because I am never happy and constantly change my mind (sucks to be Rick, eh?). But I guess it’s good that I like the season we are currently in – it’s better than saying in winter “I hate winter, I can’t wait for summer”, you know?

Here is the funny picture of the day. I set Mallory up with breakfast and went to start some laundry. When I returned I found Mallory reading and eating. Totally reminds me of me (and probably most everyone has this memory) reading the back of the cereal box while eating breakfast. It was beyond adorable.

Here is my GO BOO baby – I am uploading video as I type and will post later :-)

Not much else going on – the Olympics are on and I just watched Michael Phelps’ WR swim online – that guy is amazing. Mallory was boycotting her nap until I brought her out to the couch; I guess she thinks men’s basketball is a little boring – this is how I found her after going upstairs to change my clothes. I think swimming, diving & gymnastics are my favorite sports of the summer games (of course I like softball too but that never seems to be broadcast much).
Mallory & I are heading “up north” this weekend to see my oldest friend from grade school! She lives outside DC now but her folks have a house in Harbor Springs. So we’ll have a fun weekend visiting with her & her two kids and with my aunt & uncle in Petoskey. This is the third year in a row that my mom & I have gone up in mid-August – it’s a nice break for me in the middle of Rick’s crazy football month.
Then it will just be another two weeks until the first football game. Go boo!!!
