Mallory, words

The music battles have already begun

I thought I’d have a decade or so before I had to fight over the radio in my car. But no.

My kid likes her kiddie music. You know – the Bah Bah Black Sheep, Wheels on the Bus, No More Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, the Itsy Bitsy Spider that I’ve had to sing in the car for the past month. I expanded our music collection to get more options and purchased a three-CD set of children’s music. I asked Rick if he needed a CD for his car and he said no. What? How does that work? If I have to suffer through the songs, then he should too.

Well, this morning the battle blew up big time. I am assisting with morning drop-off due to Rick’s new & improved insane work schedule. Mallory & I got in the car and I was looking forward to my morning drive station – the one I listen to EVERY morning (except the mornings my sister calls and chit-chats).

I turned on my station and from the backseat I hear, “Mmmmmmoooooo” (Mallorian for “no”). I said “Hey, it’s mommy’s turn to listen to her music. Let’s listen to mommy’s music today!” “Mmmmmmoooooo”.

So I decided to play tough guy. I said “We are going to listen to mommy’s music this morning. Who’s car is this, anyway?”

Mallory’s response? “Mine”.

Just a collection of some new words/developments:

  • Ugh = hug
  • Gug = Doug, one of Rick’s friends and where Rick spent Friday night. On Saturday morning when M was asking where Gaga was, I told her he was at Doug’s house = “Gug ouse” Hysterical.
  • Bark Bark = Barkley, our friend’s dog
  • I love how she messes up her Ms and Ns. For example – Milk is Nilk and Nose is Mose
  • She insists that Daddy is pronounced Gaga. I’ll rattle off a string of words that I know she can say almost 100% right (mama, gigi, baby) and she will repeat after me perfectly. But then I say “daddy” and she says “gaga”.
  • She knows who all of our friends are but won’t say their names (except Gug). And anytime I ask her to repeat a new name back to me, she just giggles.

Ok, the princess was pitching a fit tonight ~ I went in to check on her and she had both bear blankies, her book and sippy cup of water gathered up in her arms (my clues that she expected to come up to my bed…). It was only 7.30p so I wasn’t crawling into bed with her but I told her she could fall asleep in my bed but she would be by herself. I fully expected to make it halfway down the stairs and hear her crying for me. It has now been 45 minutes and I just checked on her – she is sound asleep, cuddled up with Rick’s pillow. GOD I love that sweet baby of mine.
