I made it home from Austin and successfully avoided the hurricane that was heading that way.
Here is what has happened last week:
Cooper usually went to my dad’s house for the day. One day when Rick & Mallory went to pick him up after bootball practice, Mallory and my dad got into an argument about who’s name is Mimi. My dad kept pointing to himself saying “Grandpa!” and then pointing at Mallory saying “MIMI!” and Mallory would get SO MAD and would point at him and say “NO – YOU MIMI!”. My dad said this went on for a few minutes and that it was so funny to argue with her.

Mallory went to Miss Cheri’s house Thursday night. Their 6-yr old son Bryce made sure Mallory had all of his old comforts from when he was little – the fish aquarium, his favorite CD, etc. After Mallory should have been asleep for a while, Cheri went to check on her. She found Bryce trying to get into Mallory’s room. Apparently Bryce said that Mallory wanted him to sleep in her room with him – so he ended up on the guest room bed while Mallory slept in her pack-n-play in the same room. Rick is going to have to have a talk with Scary Larry about the boy-girl sleepover he let happen right under his nose. Cheri also reported that on Friday morning Mallory was acting as though she was just done. The slightest thing (Barkley brushing by her, Bryce touching her, etc) would send her whimpering to Cheri. Mallory handled her week away from me so much better than I expected and I am so proud of how well she did just rolling with the punches.

Went to pick Mallory up at daycare on Friday when I got back to town. It was naptime so she was snoozing next to Alli, who wasn’t snoozing. Alli saw me walk in and started to get up but I said “oh no Alli – night-nights!” and she quickly put her head back down on her cot to pretend she was sleeping. I started to rub Mallory’s back to get her to wake up – she was SOUND asleep on her tummy and drooling. She rolled over and saw me and got a big smile and said “Mama!” and let me pick her up. Then she wiggled back out of my arms to curl back up on her cot. Nice to see you too, kid. She ended up being grumpy for our ride home since she only got a short nap so we didn’t have as fun a day as I would have hoped. Her schedule was so screwy that I am thinking I got the wrath of her week’s worth of lack of sleep. I tried to put her down around 7p in my bed and I was ready to go to bed at that point (after my 3a wakeup call Friday morning) but she was so NOT ready to sleep – she kept unplugging her paci and getting out of bed. When she was next to me and I would close my eyes to pretend to go to sleep, she would point at my eyes and say “up eyes”. Silly little girl. After 30 minutes of this, I finally put her in her crib where she cried for 20 minutes and then I decided she would probably now fall right asleep so I brought her back upstairs and she was out.

I ended up abandoning Mallory again on Saturday so I could go to the UM game at ND; she got to hang out with Yaya during the day and then spent the night at Aunt Emy’s house (and got to make donuts this morning at Mimi’s house!). She is now entering hour two of her nap and I am expecting to hear from her any minute.
OH – this is fun! The last night we were in the hotel in Austin there were all sorts of people checking in with their pets and big paintings and stuff – I’m assuming they were seeking shelter from the hurricane. But my co-worker said he saw CARSON KRESSLEY (the blond dude from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) in the elevator – we were totally wracking our brains to try to figure out what he would be doing in Austin. Does he live on the coast of Texas too and was seeking shelter? A quick google search of “Carson Kressley Austin” turned up results that he was speaking at a conference in downtown Austin that week. How cool is it that my co-worker saw him!! We told him he should have waited and gotten off at his floor and followed him to see what room he was in. Oh, and when we asked him how he knew it was him – he said that Carson had on pink & blue striped shoes and a really fancy watch.

Sounds like Hurricane Ike followed me home – we have had tons of rain this week but today we are supposed to get another 2-4 inches. It is nuts how rainy it has been…nothing compared to what Texas saw but I’ll take big snowstorms over a hurricane any day.

We won’t even talk about the Michigan football game yesterday. What a disaster.
That’s all I have right now. I should maybe try to unpack while I still have peace & quiet. Oh – Friday marked the 12 week point. Go Arlo!!
