Mallory

Weekend Review (10/05/08)

Here is our weekend:

We had swim class on Friday night, which is really open swim while a pimple-faced kid gets paid to take attendance. Of course this annoys the ever-living-crap out of me, almost to the point that I will let Rick take Mallory by himself and I’ll stay home and pretend that the teacher is actually teaching. I should be happy that he & Mallory get 30 minutes of playtime and enjoy the laughter and giggles that I hear from the pool and it’s not as though she is really going to learn how to swim since she is only 23 months old. But for goodness sake – at least PRETEND like you are interacting with the parents and tots in the Parent-Tot swim class where you are listed as the INSTRUCTOR.

Continuing on – the Michigan game Saturday sucked. And we had our first not-great day with Mallory at a game. She was pretty good for the most part but wanted her pacifier the whole day and normally we only let her have it at night and during naps so I hope it was just a weird day for her and not something bigger. I know that football Saturdays really throw her off so I fully realize I’ve been really lucky these first four home games. The hardest part about her being grumpy during the games is that I have to hold her more than normal – my back was killing me by the end of the game so I asked Mallory if she remembered all the money we put in her piggy bank, and she said yes. I then explained that we are going to use that money to get mommy a massage.

Then today I woke up with a pounding headache – probably due to not drinking enough water yesterday, and felt so nauseous that I got so far as to lift the lid on the toilet seat (the closest I’ve been to actually puking this entire pregnancy). That wasn’t fun. I tried to make french toast casserole for breakfast for the three of us but that turned out disgusting. Rick left for work and Mallory & I went down for a nap at 9.40a. I woke up at 10.50a to her crying on the steps so I grabbed her and brought her to my bed and we slept again until 12.15p!

FINALLY we left the house on this ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS fall day – we were on our way to pick up Mallory’s cousin Lauren for a playdate (but not without a stop at the store for a coke for me…cleared that headache right up!). I took both girls to Target and then we came home and the girls played in the yard while I mowed our yard and our neighbor’s yard. You can totally tell that Lauren has two brothers at home – her style of playing and Mallory’s style of playing are completely different. Mallory is pretty go-go-go most of the time but she is also happy just sitting and collecting and sorting rocks. Lauren is NON-STOP from one thing to another!

Mallory has finally come up with something consistent to call Lauren – “Oh-lone”. Every time we were in the car, Mallory would pull out a book and ask Lauren “what’s dat, Oh-lone? what’s dat, Oh-lone?”; it was so adorable. Then when the girls were playing in the house after being outside, Lauren kept asking “want to play with me Malrey?” They play together so much better now than they did just three months ago – I think Mallory is getting better about sharing her toys and not being so possessive.

After we dropped Lauren off at home, Mallory told me in the car that she was ready for night-night (it was only like 5.30p!). I was thinking there is NO WAY I could be so lucky for her to want to fall asleep so early. She decided she wanted to eat dinner first and then as soon as she was done eating, she was telling me she wanted to go night-night. So even with a 2.5+ hour nap today, she still went down no problem at 6.45p. Unbelievable.

I am not impressed with this post, it is a little scattered with a not-very-original title but I am tired too. My apologies.

PS – Happy Birthday to my favorite sister!!
