Baby Arlo, Pregnancy

Arlo Update

Had a doctor’s appointment today with the Great Dr B. Everything looks great – the only thing I was scolded about was not exercising. She made me promise to do my Prenatal Yoga DVD every Saturday and try to increase from there (I am guessing she wasn’t impressed when I said the only exercise I got was carrying Mallory up the stairs…). She had a hard time finding Arlo’s heartbeat with the doppler – but I wasn’t worried since I was feeling the baby move all morning. The doctor had to slide that thingy across my stomach for about 30 seconds chasing Arlo before she got a good five-second stretch to actually listen to the heartbeat, before Arlo was off to kick me someplace else.

We talked about the NSTs I’ll get later in the pregnancy – starting at 36 weeks I’ll go get weekly non-stress-tests, since I am over 36 yrs old (not sure why I didn’t have to do this last time since I was 36 when I was prego with Mallory?). I got my yucky orange drink and instructions to do my glucose tolerance test in a couple of weeks. A couple of my friends ended up with gestational diabetes with their second pregnancies, so here’s to hoping I don’t follow that trend (actually, both of those friends were from the prenatal yoga class I took last time…maybe I should stay away from the yoga??)

I’m hoping that once football is over and Rick is home earlier and around more on the weekends, I’ll be able to spend some more time on me. Last pregnancy I walked the dog almost daily for at least 30 minutes (unless it was raining or way too hot) and I know that I’m not doing myself any favors by doing nothing. I am lucky to work the hours that I do and should take advantage of being home by 4p and actually get my butt in gear . My problem isn’t the physical resistance of a 2—yr old not wanting to ride in a stroller or who wants to carry the dog’s leash herself and give him “tweets” every two seconds…it’s the mental part of that exercise that drains me!
