I had my first physical therapy appointment this morning. Because it was walk-in only for the first visit, I had to show up at 7a and then I had the first real appointment of the day at 8.30a. Luckily the hospital has wireless so I grabbed their world-famous pancakes and then worked from the cafeteria for an hour.
Of course my back has been feeling much better and when the appointment started, I felt like an idiot when I told the therapist that my pain today was a one on a scale of 1-10. But she did some pushing around on my lower back and discovered that some of my joints are stuck or something. She did the MINOREST of manipulations for about 15 minutes and then had my lay on my back to do some other stuff – I was doing okay with my legs bent but she wanted me flat on my back and that is when the tears almost started, and again when I had to roll to one side and then the other. I’m sort of glad that she got to witness what causes me the most pain. Anyway, I then got 10 minutes of ice and was told to come back on Thursday. She explained that it’s normal to have more of this back pain this time than with my first pregnancy because my ligaments are already all stretched out and stuff. That’s great.
Following the PT appointment, I headed up to the ultrasound clinic to see my doctor. I was supposed to see her in her regular clinic tomorrow but she called me at home Sunday night (SERIOUSLY – how great is she?) to see how my back was doing and if I could see her Monday instead of Tuesday. It worked out good for me because they don’t have doppler machines in the ultrasound clinic…only ultrasound machines. So I got to see Arlo this morning. S/he was moving like CRAZY and the doctor confirmed my suspicions that the baby is head down. I just KNEW that it had to be feet kicking the upper right part of my tummy. Anyway – she wouldn’t move the scanner thing from the heart/chest area because I guess at her first glance, the baby was spread wide open and she knew I didn’t want to know. But the heart looked great and Dr B gushed over how cooperative the baby was, giving such a good heart shot. You could see all four chambers pumping away. It was awesome. I was a little nervous about not seeing the legs today, thanks to a show that was on TLC last night, called “Mermaid Girl” – a true story about a girl born with her legs fused together. But Dr B had me look away so she could check things out and she didn’t mention anything about Arlo’s legs looking funny, thank goodness.
I did my glucose test today too – hopefully that will come back normal.
And, to round out the day of doctors, Rick took Mallory to the doctor for her now 6-week old cough. She is on an inhaler for the next couple of days to try to kick this cough once and for all. She has had no other cold symptoms or anything so it’s just a dumb cough and I felt dumb for making an appointment for her but it had gone on long enough. Plus, when she starts coughing and we are out in public, I hate being *that mom* that everyone looks at like “HOLY COW that little girl is sick…why in the WORLD does her mom have her out (seeing Santa, at swim class, etc)"??
I have more but it will have to wait for another day.
