So the cuteness of the week comes in the form of an almost-2-year-old, blond, curly haired, sweet little cutie named Mallory.
I was sitting in the chair at Rick’s work yesterday, and Mallory came over and lifted up my shirt, and pulled down the big over-the-belly panel of my maternity pants to reveal my growing tummy.
She said “Hi baby Arlo!” and proceeded to place her cheek on my belly. Then she stood back and then leaned in and gave my belly button a kiss.
After that, she pulled up my elastic waist, and pulled down my shirt, only to repeat the process …

Hockey Girl
The fact that Rick & I met at the Cube in Ann Arbor must be in Mallory’s genes. She hasn’t watched hockey inside that rink EVER, but just recently – when we drive by it – she gets all excited and starts yelling “HOCKEY!” And then when I say, “oh, is that a hockey rink?”, she responds “Yah”, all teenage-ish sounding, like DUH MOM – that is what I just said. I think it’s cool that she gets that hockey vibe from being near a rink. Not cool enough that I want her to play hockey which would result in …

17w3d Ultrasound Pictures
Here are the scans from Monday’s ultrasound.
The face, front on; top of head is to the left, sort of tilted down. You can make out the eye sockets.
this is a foot
Side view of the head & torso. You can see the profile of the face, plus the white dotted line is the spine or ribs and then dark circle in the middle (towards the top of the torso) is the heart!
more feet.
Here is Tuesday
Mallory was running around the house with the phone tonight. Here is what I heard (keep in mind she has no idea how to actually call anyone):
Hi Emy! How you? Good. Olone play, Emy?
* * *
Ah-lo, Emy? Is Shane, Emy? Good? Olone play? Emy?
* * *
Ah-lo Gaga!! Sit, daddy, me, baby.
* * *
Hi Nina & Papa!

And here are the funny pictures of the day:
Arlo's BIG Ultrasound
Hard to believe it was time already, but we had our “big” ultrasound yesterday.
My favorite doctor, Dr B, actually did my ultrasound. Because she is doing a fellowship, she isn’t supposed to be actually seeing patients but it seems as though she is keeping up with me from behind the scenes and is looking out for me, which makes me happy!
Anyway, on to important stuff – the baby was SUPER active and according to the doctor, has BEAUTIFUL scapulas. I don’t remember our big scan with Mallory being this thorough so it was sort of interesting to see all the …
A day in the life
Here is a pictorial review of our Monday.
First, Mallory’s hair is finally long enough for real pigtails.
Second, here she is trying on some hand-me-downs tonight after work. Notice the jelly sandals and cool vest.
Thirdly, here she is giving Cooper a hug & a kiss.
Oh, and remember how I wrote the other day that I think he’s still getting into stuff, but now he is rummaging at night (as witnessed by the Mallory socks that just happened to move from the couch to the floor overnight on Friday)? I swear I know this dog like the back …
That's Hot
Mallory seems to be more a fan of cloudy days than sunny days. Whenever we are in the car and the sun is beating on her, she covers her face with her hands and says “HOT, Mommy!”.
It makes me giggle.
Oh, we used to have a shade on that window but then she broke it and I haven’t replaced it yet.
Just a couple of quick things
1. I freaking LOVE hand-me-downs. Check out the size 7/8 Imelda Marcos shoe collection we inherited this morning for Mallory. I just hope her feet don’t grow too much by next spring so she can wear some of those fun sandals.
2. Mallory insists she “no want to” play hockey whenever Rick asks her, but you wouldn’t know it by seeing her get into her bed. (Editors note: this was just before she fell asleep for a nap that is now entering its second hour so she was obviously lying to me when she said she wasn’t ready to go to …
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions
For the first time in about two months, Rick was going to pick Mallory up from daycare yesterday so I could have an afternoon to myself. Remember back in July, when we last tried this plan? I should have learned my lesson then (click here for the story).
I had plans to go get my hair cut & colored & made pretty but first I had to swing by the house to let the dog out. I had about five minutes to make this stop if I wanted to make it to my hair appointment on time.
I stepped up to the …
