Today was a day of (almost) all by myself. Rick & Mallory ran errands [he has been FABULOUS with giving me some alone time – thank you, hubby!!] so I could scrapbook and grocery shop in peace. I didn’t get much scrapping done because my stupid back started to hurt leaning over the table but I made a little progress. And tonight we were supposed to go to a holiday party at a friend’s house but I am partied out from the past three days and have been going to bed way too late (and sleeping in way too late in the morning…my 4.50a alarm is going to SUCK on Monday morning). So…I decided to waive off the party tonight and let Rick go by himself. I feel bad that he is without a designated driver but when I am asleep in an hour, I won’t even think about it. :-)
Another factor in staying home was trying to get Mallory back on schedule. She has not had a normal bedtime or bedtime routine since Christmas and the nights we’ve tried to put her to bed in her own bed have been harder struggles than normal. Tonight we put her in her room at 7p and she cried at the door for ~30 minutes (I have decided that a kid who cries for you using “momma” is a lot harder to ignore than a baby just crying). I think it was probably a little early for her to try to go down tonight since she’s been sleeping in until 8.30a this week (opposed to 6a) but she needs to get back to normal too.
* * *
I must really be suffering from pregnancy brain because all day every day stuff happens that makes me laugh so hard but I can’t remember much of it. But here is my cheat sheet:
- Mallory LOVES watching herself in the videos we take of her. She told me tonight that she wanted to watch on “da ted bear” (that is what I heard). But I was like “watch on the teddy bear??” as she walked me to the living room. She started heading to where the laptop usually sits in the living room and said “where da ted bear? I don’t know where da ted bear is”. That’s when I realized she was saying “watch on the COMPUTER”. And then I had to go have her say it again to Rick so he can try to guess what she was saying while I laughed behind Mallory’s back.
- Tonight she put on her tutu and kept telling me she needed a hat. That also took me a few minutes to realize she needed her yellow hardhat…since that is what she wore in the pretty ballerina video. She can’t dance without it.
- Helicopter = hockakoker
- She will repeat ANYTHING you say and is also coming up with her own contributions. I love how we seem to be having real conversations even though most of it is just her repeating us.
- This is what happened when I got home from Costco today:
- STB: Hi Mallory!
- MCB: Where you go?
- STB: I went to the grocery store.
- MCB: You went to drocery store?
- STB: Yes.
- MCB: You home from drocery store now?
- STB: Yes, I am home from the grocery store.
- MCB: Daddy – Mommy went to the drocery store.
- RB: She did?
- MCB: Yeah
- At dinner:
- MCB: We have pizza for dinner?
- STB: Yes, we are having pizza.
- MCB: You sit next to me, mama?
- STB: Ok.
- STB: Would you like some grapes with dinner?
- MCB: Des. I have some glapes with deener.
- MCB: Daddy – my have more glapes? No ba-lueberries. Just glapes.
- As dinner was ending:
- STB: We are going to take a bath and then you will sleep in your big girl bed!
- MCB: I take a baf in your blaftub, mommy?
- STB: OK, you can take a bath in my bathtub
- MCB: You take a baf with me in your blaftub?
- STB: Um, no, not tonight.
- MCB: You no take a baf with me?
- After brushing her teeth, she dropped her paci on the floor. I don’t normally get a new paci every time one hits the floor but after one has been in the rotation for a few days I like to swap it out.
- STB: Let’s go get a new paci. This one is dirty.
- MCB: Go get keen paci? (as she walks to the cabinet where we keep them)
- STB: Yep. And you know, you’ll have to share your pacis with Baby Arlo.
- MCB: OK. I share my pacis with Baby Arlo?
- Other funnies: she says “how ‘bout dees one?” and “how about dees way” when she wants us to go along with what she is doing.
- One of Rick’s infamous expressions when asked a question is “can’t be sure”. I’m teaching it to Mallory so now if you ask her a question, she’ll sometimes answer “can’t be sure”, complete with a shoulder shrug.
Okay, I’m sure there are more but I’m done for today. We are going to the indoor waterpark with Alli & her parents tomorrow so I need to rest up!
Hope you had fun at the waterpark. We missed you last night.
