Mallory

Found some time

I finally found some time to blog, but unfortunately it’s in the form of a sick coughing baby who needed to go to the doctor and stay home from school. Mallory had a croupy cough starting Sunday night, and Monday night it was a little worse…but last night was the worst. She was whiny & miserable from the minute I picked her up from daycare, and proceeded to curl up on the couch for a 30-minute rest when we got home. The only times she wasn’t whining were when she was eating or taking a bath. And when I tried to put her down in bed, she rolled around her bed & her room for 45 minutes and I finally let her come out to the couch but she rolled around and wouldn’t settle down for about 30 minutes and finally she fell asleep in my arms. But 15 minutes later, she was up coughing in her room and crying out for me. Repeat that scenario for the next 90 minutes until I went to bed and brought her upstairs with me. Then every 30-45 minutes – all night long – she was up coughing and doing this grunting thing and then crying inconsolably. So…at 4a I called and waived off work to stay home and let her rest (and let me rest). But, didn’t quite work out how I had planned.

I got her a 10.15a doctors appointment – they thought she might have pneumonia. We did a breathing treatment and then had to go across town to get x-rays. Rick had to meet us there since I wouldn’t be able to go into the room with her, what with Baby Arlo cooking and all. Went back to the doctor and Mallory does indeed have pneumonia. Our marching orders were these: get scrip filled, administer antibiotics asap, give dose of inhaler (which we had leftover from December when Mallory had a bad cough), give Tylenol or Motrin. Go back to the doctor at 4.30p today to have them check her oxygen levels again and then again tomorrow afternoon to see how she is responding to the antibiotics.

Phew.

Needless to say there has been NO resting for Mallory or me until now…and Mallory went down for her noon nap at 1:30p after fighting me with the syringe of nasty antibiotics.

To complicate things – I have my follow-up appointment tomorrow afternoon (40 minutes after M’s appt) from my doctor’s visit last week, just to check my dilation, etc. We are supposed to be going to a friend’s place this weekend so Rick & Mallory can ski and I can rest. Mallory & I were maybes depending on the outcome of my appointment; but I’ve been feeling SO much better after making sure to drink tons of water everyday so I was thinking we’d get the OK for me to go. But now Mallory’s situation has thrown another wrench into the plan. I think Rick will go regardless (unless Mallory takes a turn for the worse) so at least he can go get his ski on with his buddies.

So, if things come in threes – can I count Cooper’s seizure (and animal emergency visit) as one, Mallory’s impetigo (and urgent care/ER visit) as two, and this pneumonia crap as three?

I promised some pictures and will post those next…I don’t want to hide funny pictures at the bottom of a depressing post.
