We had two days on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum this weekend. Let’s start with the bad day.
Saturday – Rick had to work so it was just Mallory & me all day. We had a decent morning even though I was tired. But then she refused to nap and that set the tone for the rest of the day – she was whiney and angry about everything. We had plans to go to the Michigan hockey game Saturday night but when she didn’t go down for a nap until 4p, and woke up 30 minutes later in an even worse mood (throwing things, kicking, screaming), we waived off the game. That made Mallory even madder so I put her to bed at 6:30p. About 7.30p she called for me from her room, telling me she had to go pee-pee so I let her come try to go potty. I made the mistake of not changing the channel (so hockey wasn’t on) so when she saw the game on, she was all “I watch da hockey game”. Um, no – go to bed. She finally fell asleep close to 8p and slept all night in her bed. It’s days like this where she is grumpy and uncooperative all day that make me snap and it didn’t help that I was alone dealing with it most of the day. And I hadn’t slept well Friday night so I was extra short-tempered. So between Mallory crying “mommy-mommy-mommy” from 4.30p-6.30p and then the dog following me around starting at 3p (expecting his 6p dinner) I just can’t deal. I went to bed Saturday night hoping for a better day the next day.
Sunday – Mallory woke up on the right side of the bed and was a DELIGHT all day. She & Rick took Cooper for a long walk in the woods (I guess it was only long by time standards, not by distance standards, since Mallory wanted to actually walk and not ride in the backpack carrier). But anyway – they returned with a happy and tired Cooper which was awesome. We had a quick lunch and then Mallory very easily went down for a two-hour nap. I followed her to bed and took a 90 minute nap of my own ;-) Mallory woke up from her nap a little pissed off that I was taking a nap by myself so that was pretty funny. Rick had a hockey game at 5p so after some discussion (ie drama) about how his 38w pregnant wife and 2-yr old daughter were going to have dinner if we went to his game, Mallory & I headed to watch his game. Mallory was fun and silly the whole ride in (I’ll list her new funny games below) and was fun at the hockey game too. She was screeching and yelling “GO DADDY” during the game, and was calling Joe the Goalie “Go the Goalie”. After the game, we went to Fridays for dinner and she was great – ate all of her dinner and shared her fries with us too. Then I had to share my dessert. In the car coming home, I told her that when we got home, she had to get ready for bed but she said back “NO – PWAY!!!” and laughed. When we got home, she wanted to go potty so she got herself on the toilet, and I ran upstairs to use the other bathroom – she started hollering for me and I came down to hear “I WENT POOPY ON DEE POTTY!!!”. It is amazing how proud you can be of your kid for going #2 in the toilet. Anyway, we cleaned up, got on our jammies without a fight, read one book and she went RIGHT.TO.BED. and slept until 6.30a this morning.
And here are the new games she likes to play:
- She likes to play this “my Cooper” or “my Shaners” or my-whatever game. So she says “my Shaners” and then I have to say “no, MY Shaners” and then she says it again, and on & on until she gets pouty and then we stop. Yesterday in the car we were playing that game and she told me she was going to say it fast (which she did) and then slow (which she did) and then I got her to do it loud and soft. It was pretty funny.
- She is also on a “go on green, stop on red” kick – and had a rough time yesterday when I turned right on a red light.
- When we go out to a restaurant, she likes to play with all the packets of sugar. She hands them out and then tells us “shake ‘em, guys” so all three of us are sitting at a table shaking sugar packets.
