Mallory

Park it, Mommy

Need to get these down before I forget them.

  • Someone (probably me?) has said “Park it, sister” at least once to Mallory when we want her to get on the floor so we can change her diaper. Now, when she grabs a diaper from the drawer, she’ll tell me “Park it, mommy”.
  • Someone (again, probably me?) has said “Oh man!” at least once to Mallory whenever she takes a big bite of food. Now, when she takes a big bite she says “Say ‘Oh man’ at me, mommy!”.
  • This leads me to my next story…she confuses her prepositions all the time. She says “Take this at school with me” (instead of “to”) and some other times she will use “for” instead of “to”.
  • Walking through the grocery store the other day, Mallory was full of it and saying hi to EVERYbody we walked past. I don’t know what to do when she is so chatty like that – do I laugh at her or apologize to the other shoppers because my kid was being so social and interrupting their shopping?
  • Also at the grocery store, Mallory said “Al-son Cat-ryn (Alli’s last name)”. I was DYING! Now when you ask Mallory her name she alternately says “Mal-rey Carman (our last name)” or “Mal-rey Carman (Alli’s last name)”. Also cracks me up.
  • Last Friday at my dad’s – Mallory told grandpa that he has a big tummy like her mommy does.

We’ve had a pretty low-key week. Rick has been taking Mallory to daycare in the morning and then I usually pick her up after school. I have been a scrapping fool during the day and then I work on practicing my patience in the afternoons with Mallory.

Mallory’s little friends at school are still super interested in my belly. One of the little boys in her class will come over and lift up his shirt and tell me “belly belly belly!” and Alli will usually come over and say “when is baby out?”.

Last night we went and visited my co-worker who’s wife had twin girls 2.5 weeks ago (she & I actually had the same due date!). Mallory was very sweet with the babies and didn’t get mad when I was holding one of the girls. She kept wanting to touch their little hands and I kept trying to explain to Mallory that this is what is in my belly right now. I was happy to see that she was fine with me holding a little baby.

Mallory had a little run-in with the stairs this morning. I’ve posted a hundred times about how she will fall down and usually gets right up and brushes it off, so when she does start to cry, I know it’s something bad. She was heading up the stairs today and I was a few steps behind her. I heard her go down and then she started SCREAMING. By the time I got to her, blood was pouring out of her nose. I grabbed her and tried to calm her down but it literally took about 10 minutes of fighting her (while I got covered in blood) to get her sit still. I tried to stay calm so that my freakout wouldn’t contribute to her freakout but she was just thrashing in my arms. I finally got her a paci which settled her down and I was able to get her to lay back so her nose would stop bleeding. Being a mom is so hard sometimes.

And with that – I’m out. The sun is shining and the grill is going and I have to start dinner (Rick & Mallory have run to the store for some fake beer for me!). Go Blue!!
