Carson, Mallory

Seven Whole Days

Oh man. My baby is already SEVEN days old. Where is the time GOING?

I’ve been bugged for MORE pictures but it’s hard to take pictures of a baby that is sleeping on your chest, especially when you don’t want to be in the picture yourself since even though you’ve followed your OB’s advice and taken a shower every morning, you still don’t have a stitch of makeup on or hair done and thus refuse to let the viewing audience see you in such a state.

BUT – I can regale you with my wonderfully written words instead. Just imagine me looking presentable, ok?

I forgot to post about this from last week. While we were still in the hospital, Mallory was OBSESSED with Carson’s fingers. He had little hangnails, and Mallory kept trying to pull off the hanging pieces. And if she couldn’t pull them off, she would try to bite them off (the hanging parts, not his actual fingers).

I’m happy to report that all of us are doing better and better every day. I didn’t cry once yesterday so that’s a big improvement. Mallory is back to wanting to give me a kiss so that helps too. I’m not sure if I’ve written about her “big squeeze hugs” yet but lately that’s how she’s been giving us hugs (when she decides she wants to give one).

Rick has been great – he knows that I’ve been upset about Mallory so yesterday when they walked in the door, the very first thing out of Mallory’s mouth is “I love you, Mommy!” and when I asked for a hug, she says “a big squeeze hug?” (while doing this little head tilt thing that cracks us up) and so I got a great big hug from my little girl. She still isn’t back to using the potty like she was before, and I’m a little worried about it because she didn’t go potty at ALL yesterday until 4p (she did have a wet diaper in the morning though). So I think I need to make sure that daycare is pumping her full of water to force her to go potty more often. I’d rather her go in her diaper a few times, than hold her pee for 8 hours.

Carson & I paid a visit to the lactation consultant yesterday. I’m having some pain on one side when I nurse and waited until Mallory was about 4 weeks old (and I was ready to throw in the breastfeeding towel) before seeing a LC so this time I thought we should seek help immediately. It was a good refresher of things I need to be careful to look for with regard to positioning, etc and the LC made me feel better by explaining that the even though I’ve done this before, the last time I did – it was with a 9-mo old baby who knew exactly what she was doing and it was easy. So starting over with a new baby will bring new pains as we both figure this out.

And last but not least – more Mallory for you. I hate that she is getting buried in the bottom of these posts so we’ll just say I’m saving the best for last :-)

I’ve mentioned before (and before and before) but this kid LOVES to sing. She will go on & on with one song or another and it cracks me up. Just last week she started singing the Hokey Pokey and this week it’s the Barney song. I don’t think we’ll ever watch Barney in our house (I’d rather stick to Mickey Mouse or Sesame Street), but if you’ve never heard a 2.5 year old little girl (who you love more than anything in the world) sing “I love you, You love me, We’re a happy family. With a great big hug, and a kiss from me to you, Won’t you say you love me too”, you have NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE MISSING. I will attempt to get it on video because it is too unbelievably precious for me to keep all to myself.

Mals ended up in our bed at some point last night, earlier than we normally allow her to join us but I was too tired to really notice the time or really even care so when Rick got up at to do something with Carson, he was all confused to find Mallory already in our bed. Do you think she knows that we are in a weakened state and knew that launching a surprise visit with no tears and no fanfare would allow her to sneak into our bed practically unnoticed? Pure genius.

And then Rick was great with her this morning, encouraging her to hang out with him so I could sleep in until 7:15a (with a snoozing Carson right next to me). Normally she wakes up and orders me to wake up too. I feel great today and got a little nap in which will come in handy because Rick has practice tonight and then an 11p hockey game. So good sleeping baby and toddler wishes for tonight are more than welcome.

Well, it is a beautiful sunny gorgeous day here in southeastern Michigan so I should probably get out and enjoy it. We’re going to head in to get Mallory at daycare pretty soon and then go see Rick at work.
