Mallory

912 days old!

Wednesday was Mallory’s 912-day birthday. Also known as 2.5 years or 30 months. Good grief time has FLOWN. I look at her and think back to when she was a little pumpkin barely crawling. Or when she called Cooper “buh-buh”. I love to go back through the blog archives to remember what life was like before Mallory wasn’t talking CONSTANTLY. It’s hard to believe that she was so funny before she even talked for real. Remember this gem (from February 2007…~ 3 mos old) or this one (February 2008 ~ 15 mos old)? And I look at Carson and get happy thinking I get to go through those fun times again, except this time it won’t be quietly reading a book at 15mos, it will be tearing a book up and stomping on it…

Anyway, we had Mallory’s big 30-month appointment on Tuesday. This was the first appointment that they gave us a little gown for Mallory to wear when we took her clothes off (really? at 30 months they already need to be covered up?). The doctor (Dr. S) came in and started to ask Mallory some questions, all conversational-like (asking her name, is she a boy or a girl, is daddy a boy or a girl, etc). Mallory did great and Dr. S was happy with everything – she asked us a bunch of questions about Mallory’s development and Mallory met or exceeded all of the milestones she is supposed to at this age. As Dr S was referring to her list of things to ask us, I asked if being able to sing Hail to the Victors by 30mos was a milestone on her list. LMAO.

Some highlights:

  • She weighs 34.83lbs (95%) and is 37.1” (82%).
  • We asked about Mallory’s tantrums and her anti-Rick behavior. Dr S assured us that it is temporary since it mostly likely related to the new baby invading her space, and told Rick to just wait…when Mallory is 4, she will be all about dad, all the time.
  • We asked about our giving in on the bedtime paci. Dr S said that the dentists like to see kids drop the paci by age 4 and as long as Mallory is only using for bedtimes, we’re doing OK. She also pointed out that all kids get braces these days so who cares if it does mess up her teeth a little bit. LOL.
  • Dr S was impressed with our potty-training progress. She thought it was great that Mallory can go most nights with a dry diaper and to keep up the good work. She suggested that when we notice Mallory about to go poop or is going poop (she gets a funny look on her face), to get her to the bathroom; even if she isn’t sitting on the potty to go poop, we need her to realize that pooping happens in the bathroom.
  • Dr S was talking about how we should start seeing Mallory want to be in on the joke. I got to explain that Mallory is already playing along with us. She’ll do or say something and then ask us “that silly?” or “that funny?”. And one of the ways I distract her in the car is by singing the wrong words to a song – like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Boat” and then asking Mallory if that is how it (the song) goes. Mallory has started to sing the wrong words to song and then she’ll look at me with a silly face and say “dat how it goes?”. It CRACKS ME UP.

This is unrelated to the doctor’s visit but I wanted to document it – I made a sticker chart for Mallory for her morning and bedtime routine. She gets to put a sticker next to each task when she does it and it has really helped us, especially in the morning (and especially will be helpful for Rick when I go back to work…no more Mallory going to school with unbrushed teeth). It’s simple stuff – go potty & wash hands, get dressed, let mom or dad brush hair, brush teeth, put on socks, put on shoes, etc. Anyway, Mallory LOVES the chart and as she gets ready, she will tell us she needs to do her chart.

I’ll slip this in here too – Carson was 12.5lbs on Tuesday. And for those statisticians out there: while Carson weighs more than Mallory did at one month, Mallory gained 2.5 lbs in her first month, and Carson gained less than two.

  1. Oh my gosh, such a big girl. And crazy to think about things in “days” rather than months! Glad to hear all is well and that your adjusting to life with baby #2 at home…it’s definitely a change?!?! I can’t wait to meet Carson one of these days. And please tell Miss Mallory thanks for the cute clothes :-) Talk soon!
