Fun headline, eh? :-)
While we’ve been on the potty training train for a few months, only recently has Mallory been wearing training pants (with rubber pants over them) all day at school. We usually get through most of the evening with the training pants but then she’ll poop or sometimes pee in them and it brings us back a few notches (you know, the old “two steps forward, one step back” phenomenon). Anyway, she’s been doing MUCH better so last week at Target I let her pick out her own big girl underpants. She chose the pack with the Disney Princesses on them (sorry, Mello, they don’t make girl underpants with hockey pucks and softballs on them).
The deal is that she has to go poop on the potty in order to wear the Princess underpants. But she still only pooped in her training pants or a pull-up (usually she’ll pee in the training pants, we’ll put a pull-up on, and then she’ll poop right away).
So these Princess Underpants have been hanging in her closet. We don’t normally hang our underwear in the closet in the Brandt house but I had to keep them in sight but out of her hands for them to be an incentive for her. We’ve been talking all week about going poopy on the potty and that it means Princess underpants, etc and she’ll tell you the deal and the rules. All weekend we had false alarms, she would run to the bathroom all frantic saying “I HAVE TO GO POOPY!” so we’d put her up on the potty and three seconds later she says “I will fry (try) later”. This would happen about five times in a row and she’d end up pooping in her pants/pull-up.
Yesterday she wore big girl underpants (with rubber pants over them) all day with no accidents, and then I let her wear big girl underpants (with rubber pants over them) to bed. I’d say she’s dry in the morning about 90% of the time but I was certain that last night would be the night that she decided to pee. But nooooo, not my girl – dry as can be this morning – I was so happy! So I got her dressed today with big girl underpants and rubber pants and she did great all day. Notice we haven’t had poop action just yet. I was SURE that tonight we’d have our incident that would undo our progress. After dinner, she did the usual “I HAVE TO GO POOPY” and “I will fry later” routine. A few minutes later, she came running to the bathroom again “I HAVE TO GO POOPY, MOMMY!!” and she got up on the seat and OH.MY.GOD did she poop! She has pooped in the potty once before (back in March), but tonight’s event was remarkable because she initiated it.
If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that this means PRINCESS UNDERPANTS!
We tried to call Rick to tell him the good news – no answer. But Mallory said “we call GRANDPA and GIGI and EVERYONE!!!!”
So we called Grandpa – Mallory told him: “I went poopy on the potty so I get princess underpants! But poopy in my diaper…no princess underpants!”
Then we called Grandma, and Nina & Papa, and Gigi to tell them the great news.
My Princess is now asleep, wearing Princess underpants.
And you know we JUST opened a new box of pull-ups.
