We had a fun date night with Alli & her folks last night. They got to the restaurant (TGIFridays…are you shocked?) first and when Mallory walked in, the two girls ran at each other like they hadn’t seen each other in like five years. Which, considering they are only 2.5 yrs old, is amazing. Carson slept the ENTIRE time we were there, which allowed me to thoroughly enjoy two ultimate margaritas, plus dinner AND dessert.
The girls were pretty good but a little wild and kept feeding off each other. Mallory had a messed up day – we’d spent most of the day at the women’s football academy so she didn’t get a nap until 4p when she fell asleep in the car. It was a late night for her, especially without a nap, but she was pretty good at dinner. She did lose TWO helium balloons though, and that sort of irritated her. And me. The ceiling in Fridays is REALLY high so we had to keep asking for more balloons for my butterfinger baby.

Today was BEAUTIFUL. I took the kids & the dog for a long walk and both kids fell asleep, which is nice. Carson usually sleeps through our walks, but Mallory’s usually MO is to ask a hundred bajillion questions, most of which I don’t have the answers to (what is that dog’s name? what is that guy doing? why?)
We tried to go swimming after our walk but when we got about 20′ from the lake shore, I could smell nasty fish smells. When we got closer, I full-on expected to see a hundred fish washed ashore. Luckily I didn’t see any fish, but there was a lot of washed up vegetation. Our access is in a little cove and I think it’s the catch-all for all that free-floating stuff. It will go away in a few days but in the meantime I set up our little pool in the yard for Mallory. She told me “I can’t go in the lake, it’s skusting”. It took me a minute to realize she was saying that the lake is “disgusting”. LOL.
We played in our pool for a bit and then went to A2 to go to the country club that the whole rest of my family joined this summer. It’s the same community pool that we belonged to as kids and it was very weird to be there as a grown-up with my own kids, running into people I used to know from the pool from back in the olden days! Mallory had a wonderful time playing with her cousins & grandpa & Gigi in the pool, and Carson enjoyed a little poolside snack and snooze. We did dip his toes in the water briefly but it was a little chilly.

And lastly – a couple of funny Mallory-isms:
- We’ve had a rough couple of days; I think my lack of good night’s sleeps really caught up with me the end of the week and I had zero patience for Mallory’s whine-fests. When I’m tired, I tend to go from zero-60 in about three miliseconds and I scream & yell at Mallory. I immediately feel bad, but I still let her sit in her room for a minute while I calm myself down, and then I go in and apologize for yelling. Yesterday when I went to apologize, I told her I was so sorry and that I want to be a good mom, but that when she is crying and whining, while Carson is crying, etc, it’s hard to be a good mom and not yell. Today she was being a super-pill and when I yelled at her, she said “you are not being a good mom”. That’s great. Well this bad mom is having big Mallory come out to help with little Mallory tomorrow after work – it will be nice to have my Mallory have someone else to entertain her and listen to her so I can try to get some cleaning done. Wish me luck ;-)
- Still using the power of princess underpants to get potty production out of Mallory. She has been doing GREAT and has even started to tell us when she has to go potty (rather than having us have to remind her). We still do remind her but it’s nice to know she is getting it herself. Anyway, she told me she wanted a diaper (presumably to go poop in) and I told her no, that she had to go on the potty, because big girls go pee & poop on the potty and then they get princess underpants. She informed me that Carson doesn’t get princess underpants because he goes poopy in his diaper.
