How on God’s green earth is my little boy three months old already? How is it already July? How have I not yet seen my first firefly of the summer?
This week has flown by, as they have been known to do lately. Both kids are good – I’ll entertain you with some Mallory gems first:
- I was helping her get dressed the other night and pulled her jammies up over her belly, maternity-pant-style. She pulled them down and told me not to do that because she doesn’t have a baby in her tummy.
- I like to try to have us talk about our days over dinner so I ask Mallory what she did at school that day. She’ll say “pway” (play). So I’ll say “what else did you do at school?” a couple of times until I get a couple of answers from her. The other night we did that routine and then I asked Rick what he did at work and he said he had to count stuff. Mallory then looked at me and said “what you do at work today?”; I told her I ordered some stuff. Then she said “and what else?…”
- She usually goes to bed on the first try but this week she has been fighting bedtime. The other night she kept coming out of her room with different requests – she needed her nails painted, she needed to go potty, she needed a potty treat, etc. After I finally started to ignore her, she stood in the hallway outside her room working Rick. She said “um, dad”, while looking around for something that could help her stall bedtime, “close that lid” – and pointed to one of the boxes from Costco in the hallway.
- I took both kids with me last night to get my hair cut – Mallory told me she wanted her hair cut to look like mine. I said “you want boring straight brown hair??” and she told me yes. I told her she was crazy. Normally if we ask her if she wants to get her hair cut she says “no way Jose” which is what I taught her in case her dad tried to sneak off to get her hair cut.
- Rick & I got a new bed (headboard/footboard) on Sunday to go with the new mattress we got last week. Of course I *had* to put it together that night and Rick had stuff to do outside so I just started without him. The commotion in our room attracted a curly-haired girl from her bed and she promptly told me she wanted to help me. She ditched her paci & bear in favor of her screwdriver and helped me by handing me screws. And then she told me she needed to read the “rections” (directions) so she laid on her tummy, chin in her hands, waving her little toes in the air, and tried to figure out what I had to do next.
I screwed up this week and had chocolate cake at Lauren’s birthday party on Sunday and then, in a moment of weakness, a caffeine Coke on Tuesday. This translates into a grumpy-grumpy three month old at night. I feel so badly that I cause him this pain!
We have some fun stuff planned for the long weekend. We’ll do our annual 4th of July (a day early) boat trip to Zukey with my folks on Friday and on Saturday we may hit the parade with Alli & her parents. Then we have some friends and their kids coming out to play and hopefully watch the fireworks from our house Saturday night. Sunday is open right now. The weather looks like it’s going to be great all weekend ~ not hot enough for me to actually get in the water, but will be nice to hang out on the boat or on our new paver patio :-)
We’ll be taking Carson’s three-month pictures this weekend and will try to sneak in a family photo since I have the fancy remote control now. Have a great 4th of July weekend!!
