Carson, Mallory

I know I may be jinxing myself…

…but my sweet baby boy is the best little baby.

We have our evening routine finally figured out. We get home from school, I nurse him and then he plays or maybe naps. Then he eats cereal with us while we eat dinner (sometimes Mallory feeds him – THAT is hysterical). And then he gets a bath because he’s a mess after dinner. He LOVES to kick and splash in the water and we could leave him in there for an hour if we wanted to because he loves it that much. After bath we load him up with Aquafor for his sensitive skin and some nights he is grumpy and will allow us to put him right into his crib where he’ll roll to his tummy and tuck his knees under his belly and stick his sweet tushy up in the air and go right to sleep. Some nights I nurse him – not usually to get him to fall asleep, although he sometimes does fall asleep – but just because I want him to eat so he’ll sleep longer in the night. But it turns out that no matter what time we put him down, we don’t hear from him until 3a or so, when Rick brings him to me and I nurse him in bed and we both fall back asleep until my alarm goes off, or big sister Mallory climbs into bed with us. I have a few reservations about bringing him to our bed, since I don’t want him to get used to it, but the fact that he goes to sleep in his own crib on his own almost every night, I’m not worried that we are creating some bad habits. I’m sure that I could return him to his crib after I feed him in the night, and I would do that if I wasn’t asleep ;-)

Carson loves to just hang out on the floor, rolling around to get whatever toy he can get his hands on. Wednesday night he rolled over on top of Mallory’s toy guitar, and Mallory got mad, saying “THAT is MY toy, CARSON!”. But she is good at giving him his own toys to play with. Yesterday I had to run upstairs to fix something and I asked her to keep an eye on Carson and she said “I will keep an eye on him”. When Rick got home, I told him to ask her about it, and he asked her if she kept one eye or two eyes on him. She reported that she kept just one eye on him.

C also loves the exersaucer and we are starting to work on him sitting up. He can actually do it for a couple of seconds totally unsupported but then he takes a header. But with the boppy or some pillows supporting him, he can play like that for a while.

Carson is going to be five months old next week – I can hardly believe it. He is so much fun with his smiles and laughing. I am excited (nervous?) to see how he does at the first football tailgate/game next weekend. Oh, and Mallory too. Please let her love it and be good. Please.
