Busted again

September 8, 2009

We had a more normal bedtime routine tonight for Mallory. “Normal” consists of her coming out to talk to me/us a couple of times before she finally settles in and falls asleep. I thought she’d reached her normal number of “but I just need {whatever}” trips from her bedroom, so I grabbed my usual evening snack of a couple {okay, four} Chips Ahoy Reduced Fat cookies and a big glass of milk.
As I finished my second cookie, I heard the tiny pitter patter of Mallory feet across the kitchen floor and hurried to swallow the cookie, take a big swig …

My Grandpa is an Engineer, #2

September 8, 2009

I had to take our fan apart to vacuum all the dust off of it and you know Mallory just had to help me put it back together again. I left her to work on it and went to fold some laundry, expecting her to do a couple of screws and then get bored. But I came back and she had the one side all put back together again, and she said “But I have one-two-three-four-five-SIX (screws) left?” (each side of the fan has six screws).

So I flipped it over and let her finish. She got all …

Playdate with Alli

September 8, 2009

We got to have Alli come play a few weeks ago while her mom ran a race. The girls had fun for most of the day but it really is funny how they get on each other’s nerves.
They play so well together some the time…(sorry about the crying baby in the background)

and then they don’t get along…

I spent most of the day saying “well, then don’t stand next to her” or “then go find another toy” or “MALLORY – YOU HAVE TO SHARE”.

Good Girl

September 7, 2009

A lot of people have told me that the Terrible Twos are nothing compared to the Terrible Threes, and that for as naughty and ornery and grumpy as Mallory has been the past year, that it’s only going to get worse (and I know that in the grand scheme of the world, she is a pretty good kid, but it’s all relative..when she’s good, she’s great but when she does get ornery – LOOK OUT).
So I’ve been dreading her upcoming third (OMG – she’s going to be THREE!) birthday, and was very scared about what is to come. But …

Feed the starving children

September 7, 2009

Most of my lovely readers probably don’t want to watch this video – it’s 2+ minutes of Carson slurping rice cereal. But it’s pretty funny to see him get grumpy when I am slow getting him food. Plus you can see him help rake in the spoon.

Sam I Am

Sam I Am 52:1

September 6, 2009

Thanks to my super creative cousin Susan, I have a super-clever name for my “picture of me each week” project. :-)
This week’s entry was supposed to just be a picture of me showing that I was the last one to leave the tailgate on Saturday. But it also ended up being the only picture of me from this week so it is my only option. Now you know why I need to have this project so I can get myself on film memory card.

I promise that these should be more interesting the next 51 weeks.

Fire up, it’s SATURDAY!

September 6, 2009

Michigan kicked off their 2009 season with a big win over my alma mater on Saturday. Everyone said I was brave to take both kids to the tailgate/game. But really it’s mostly that we aren’t rich ~ I can’t imagine my babysitting tab if I had my sister watch both kids all day on a Saturday. The weather looks shady for next weekend so I might have to figure something out. We’ll see.
But – my children were, in a word, awesome. All day long. I was a little shocked. I sort of wanted them to be jerks so I had …

Two Year Old Grammar

September 6, 2009

If you’ve ever met my dad, you know he is a FREAK about correct grammar and spelling. Last night after the football game, Mallory said, “Grandpa! Me & Mommy went POOPY!” (we’d both just used the bathroom at my dad’s).
My dad tried to correct her and said “My mommy & I went poopy”.
Mallory said back “NO – YOU didn’t go poop. Just me and my mommy went poopy. Sam and Mallory did.”

Bossy Genes

September 4, 2009

All poor Mallory inherited from me are my cheeks and my thighs. Rick gave her his round head and his brown eyes. While Mallory’s eyes aren’t as dark brown as Rick’s, they are a lighter brown with some golden flecks in them.
So, I’m happy that Carson looks a little like me, but I am afraid his eyes are getting a little less blue. And I will be pretty upset if neither of my children ends up with my eye color.
All because of Rick’s bossy genes.
{I can’t take credit for the saying, but it is too perfect to …
