Carson, Mallory

A quick lunchtime entry

I realized that while I’ve been sharing tons of pictures lately, I haven’t done much “this is what we’re up to” posts. And really, while you may like my pictures more than my words, this blog isn’t really about you – it’s about me, or rather my kids, and I need to do some writing to remember.

Carson had his 6-mo well-child visit yesterday. He weighs almost 19lbs and is 27.5”. Both are good numbers and the nurse commented “I don’t think we have to worry about him hitting 20lbs by the time he’s one!”. Um, I could have told you that back on April 2, at about 7:59p. Anyway – poor boy had to get four shots yesterday (including a flu shot), so after his appointment I took him home and he slept for 4 hours. He was a champ getting the shots – screamed like crazy and then once I picked him up he calmed right down. I remember this from Mallory – I secured my existence as the mom by being the only one they want after the shots…

We are still 100% breastfeeding (he gets pumped milk during the day at school). I think that by the time Mallory was 6mos, we had started to introduce some formula. I don’t remember starting formula that early but I do remember that we avoided using fluoride drops with her since we used the fluoride bottled water to mix with her formula (she still got some breastmilk & nursed until she was 8.5 months). So I am *very* proud of my breastfeeding-ness by being able to keep up with Tank…and we have to start fluoride drops today (to support his two teefers!).

One thing I need to write about Carson’s nursing style – he sometimes rubs his hands down my chest as he nurses – and sometimes it’s just in the air. It’s pretty funny. And he almost always kicks his feet like crazy while he’s eating. Cracks me up.

We started swim class last week – for both kids. I know Carson is a little young but he loves the tub so much I figured I could just let him enjoy the pool. My dad had to come with us because Rick was in Iowa. He walked right into the water with Carson and let’s say that Carson wasn’t a real big fan of the cold-ish water of the pool. But my darling daughter was a ROCKSTAR – so much so that the teacher said she could even be in the preschool class (instead of our parent-tot class!). The course description says the preschool class is for kids 4 & up, and when I told the teacher that Mallory wasn’t even three yet, she said that she follows direction and would do great in the preschool class. Mallory was the kid she used for all the demonstrations and Mals even floated on her back (with help from grandpa) and usually she HATES being on her back! I was sooooooooooooo proud of her and can’t wait for Rick to see her in the water this week!

Mallory is still loving her dance class – another little girl from her preschool signed up too so that is fun. Good thing she has blond hair otherwise she wouldn’t be able to take the dance class (all six girls in the class have blond hair – I will try to get a picture of them all lined up to go to their classroom because it is a-dorable).

Speaking of Mallory – she is a piece of work. She still says “hi snuggly boy” to Carson, but she’s also added “Hi sweetie pie” to her repertoire. She sits in the living room and sings “Ring around the Rosie” with him, and brings him all of his toys. And if he falls over, she helps him sit back up on his bottom, all the while talking his ear off. I wonder what she’ll do when he starts talking back? Will he tell her to buzz off?

Ok, lunch is over – gotta get back to work. More later!
