For three years, I have been telling people “nope – Mallory has never had a haircut!”.
I was afraid her curls would rebel and straighten out the minute I got a pair of skuzzers (scissors) near them so she’d gone without a haircut forever. Well, for three years.
I happened across this picture of Mallory yesterday (from her birthday in 2008). Her curls were pretty and round and soft and perfect.
And I happened to have a hair appointment yesterday. And when this is how she looked yesterday, I pulled the trigger before I had time to think about it.
It was sort of like ripping off a bandaid.
Or jumping in to the pool without feeling the water first.
Or pinching your nose to swallow the gross tasting medicine.
I was sad and nervous. And oh so freaking out that her pretty hair would be gone forever because of one of my impulses.
And…tada!!!
I am *VERY* happy to report that not only did she not lose her curls, she now has more curls. The top layer of her hair was longer than the underneath stuff and it was so straggley and frizzy, but now that it’s nice and cleaned up, we have pretty and round and soft and perfect curls again.
We will all be very happy to not have big fights over combing the knots out of her hair every morning! If that isn’t something to be thankful for, on this eve of Thanksgiving Eve, I don’t know what is.
The funny thing is that my hair lady didn’t want to do Mallory’s haircut yesterday because I didn’t have my camera. I made her get her camera out so I could take pictures. And then I made her email them to me last night. And she did. She rocks.
Oh, and my hair looks great too. But I don’t have any pictures of that.
I was so glad that you didn’t cry! Kudos for the bravery, and she was so pretty mommy! :) Thanks for letting me be part of her special milestone.
Wow!! I am so impressed that she sat through the whole thing. She will have to give lessons to my girls. They would kick and fight if I tried taking them in. I absolutely LOVE Ms. M’s new do. AWESOME!!
I waited two years before cutting my daughter’s hair for the first time … and that seemed like an eternity! Of course, I was waiting for a very pronounced MULLET to grow out before attempting a cut … not a good reason like adorable curl ringlets … oh, the baby fine, poker straight hairs on my head (and my daughter’s) are so very envious of M’s curls!
The photos are just adorable … she seems to be enjoying the whole experience … and how cute that your stylist emailed them to you.
A guy named Paulo cut N’s hair for the first time – without an appointment, I just walked in … and he said in this great accent, “I cut her hairs for you.” And I replied, “Oh, do you DO little girls?” How embarrassing!
