Mallory, video

Johnny Willow

Do you have a song that your dad used to sing all the time when you were little? Like ALL.THE.TIME? Hopefully you do and I’m not the only one.

Well, Johnny Willow is that song for me. My dad used to sing it a million times when we’d drive up north and back every other weekend in the summer. Sometimes he’d change the words to include my 4th grade “boyfriend” (“Jordy Gray was a soldier…” and “…her name was Sammie T”). My sister recited the song for her 5th grade forensics contest. And my dad recorded himself singing it for me so that I could have it for posterity.

ANYWAY…I found it online and downloaded it a while ago, and Rick started playing it for Mallory in the car on the way to school. Then she started to learn the words and it is HYS-TERICAL.

It’s taken a while for us to get her to do it so we could record it, but enjoy. Rick says she knows the whole thing but I prompted her a few times to keep her on task. She also only gets through the first half of the song before she fizzles out.

(Did you catch her say “the ammimals are coming up the hill” instead of “the enemy is coming…”? So funny.)

In case you’ve never heard this actual song before – here is a youtube video of the original. And here are the words.
