So…we moved this week.
Closing was on Monday, just after our final walk-thru. At the final walk-thru we noticed stains on the carpet and writing on the walls that hadn’t been there any of the other times we looked at the house (some being in permanent marker). This, combined with the fact that the owners hadn’t taken care of the lawn all summer, irritated the *bleep* out of me.
We went to the closing and asked for money to cover replacing the carpet. The sellers countered, and our attorney advised us to take it. We did. But we didn’t end up signing any papers until almost 3p.
But then because of something to do with financing, we didn’t get the keys until 5.30p, just in time for me to pick kids up, and run to new house for a while. As we pulled up to the house, Mallory asked why we had a garage.
We had pizza on the deck that night (the late key procurement screwed up my plans to clean and get ready for the movers in the morning) and Mallory was hysterical. Any noise she heard other kids in the neighborhood make, she would ask what they were doing and why were they riding their bikes and where were their mommies.
The next morning (the last morning at my dad’s), my dad told Mallory he’d see her after work. Mallory told him that we’d be at our new house by then, so my dad asked if he could come over. Mallory gave him these directions: "go a long-short way, then at the drocery (grocery) store, turn on that treet (street) at the drocery store and then go and our house has a BASKETBALL hoop and a FRONT DOOR!"
The front door thing makes me laugh. We had a front door on our old house, but we never used it really, we only used our side entrance. So now we have front door and a front porch and a nice deck and a large yard and a garage.
Ok, my sister is about to have a baby. I gotta go. Pictures later (of the new house and my sister’s baby!)!
