So, my new goal is to try to post a quick update during my lunch break every day. We’ll see how I do.
I owe you a big Mallory update but that will take me longer than my 30-minute break.
I’ve been battling a heck of a cold, going on three weeks now. Started with some laryngitis and a mild cough right after Labor Day (probably thanks to the cold weather & wind from the first tailgate) – and then I went to the game in South Bend and didn’t rest like I should, so I started to get a little sicker. By the end of the next week – when I stood outside in the rain tailgating before the UMass game, I had a HORRIBLE cough. I didn’t feel bad just had a bad cough. But it was REALLY bad so I went to the doctor that Tuesday and he diagnosed me with bronchitis and prescribed some cough medicine. Mallory was working on a cough too – so she had an appointment the next day and had to do her inhaler for a few days. Then, being the good little Michigan fan that I am, I tailgated in the cold and wind again on Saturday and sat outside for the football game against BGSU…and ended up feeling way worse and am now on antibiotics for a sinus infection, and about to start my refill pack of those… My cough is still brutal and I still can’t smell anything – I am READY to feel better. ARGH!
We are settling into our football season routine. Mallory tells time by “the day before gymnastics” (Monday), “GYMNASTICS DAY!” (Tuesday), “the day before dance class day” (Wednesday), “DANCE CLASS DAY!” (Thursday), “day before FOOTBALL!” (Friday), “TAILGATE DAY!” (Saturday), and “staying home day” (Sunday).
Mallory asked Rick why he always has to go to work on staying home days. And she also asked Rick why he is always at work or playing hockey. I have the same questions as Mallory! :-)
We are also slowly making progress on getting the house in order. I am struggling with how to keep our miles – actually it’s just feet but it seems like miles – of kitchen counters & island clean of the crap that it seems to attract. That’s another of life’s mysteries that I’m obsessed with figuring out – how do you keep your counters de-cluttered all the time? Do you just have lots of junk drawers? I know you probably don’t have a garbage-digger for a daughter who pulls stuff out of the trash that you are trying to get rid of, while she whines “WHY ARE YOU THROWING AWAY THIS CLAY BALL THAT I MADE!??? I WANTED TO KEEP THIS!!” and then puts it on the counter and runs to play with something else. I tried to throw away a stupid bubble wand and when she pulled that out I told her that Rick threw it away. Then I put it back in the garbage when she wasn’t looking and the next time she saw it, Rick was home, so she pulled it out and ran to him, crying “WHY DO YOU KEEP THROWING THIS AWAY! I TOLDED YOU I WANT TO KEEP THIS!”
I have a project this weekend to paint an area of a wall in the basement with that chalkboard paint and put all the magnet letters from our fridge on that – I think that will help make our kitchen look tidier in a hurry. And it will make me happy that Carson won’t be able to go throw 52 letters (all the letters of the alphabet in upper & lower case) on our kitchen floor.
It’s 11.57a so I’m going to hit publish. It’s hard to be funny and witty on a 30 minute deadline but maybe this will get me to post more frequently!
When you figure out the counter thing let me know.
I know I don’t have children, but I don’t have any attachment to “things.” I allow myself one “memory” box of keepsakes from the SC kids. From the two years I worked there, (not to toot my own horn..) I accumulated A LOT of junk. I kept the things that looked cool and meant something to me. Everything else was just garbage. Every thing has it’s place!
Jesus, my OCD is coming out.
And P.S.-I have a mail organizer if you want it.
Good luck with the magnet paint. We tried to paint a spot in our basement. After TWENTY coats; it still didn’t hold up a single thing. We tried an additional five coats. Nothing. It was a huge waste of time. :)
