I am so glad today is over. I was so nervous going into it – I just wanted the game to be over. I wanted to know how the team looked, I wanted to know who was going to start, etc. You’d think since Rick is at practice every day he’d give me some scoop but he doesn’t tell me anything. Blah.
We had a new tailgate spot today and we also had very unseasonably freezing cold weather. Well, it wasn’t really freezing, but there were like million-mile-per-hour winds. Well, they weren’t really a million miles per hour but the temps were in the 60s (degrees) and the winds were in the 30s (MPH), which made it feel freezing and really windy.
We also had a new stadium today. Well, not really a *new* stadium, but a newly-renovated stadium. It was amazing. Except I don’t like that they got rid of the secret women’s room that was right at the top of our section.
The kids were pretty funny pre-game. Anything Mallory did (standing on the seats, dancing, cheering), Carson had to do too. And true to form, when Mallory got grumpy, so did Carson. Mallory started losing it right as the team was coming down the tunnel, when a Michigan player’s brother was walking across the field. The brother was injured in a car accident almost 3 years ago (the accident killed his father) – and was given a 1% chance of walking again. He’s been working his tush off with the Michigan strength staff and has made an amazing recovery. He was able to walk across the field with some canes, and they lowered the M GO BLUE sign for him so he could tap it with his hands. It was WAY emotional, and I was trying to not start blubbering everywhere, and Mallory was looking at me all funny when my voice was cracking as I was trying to explain to my 3-yr old why it was a big deal.
Mallory promptly fell asleep as soon as the game started, and my mom got Carson to fall asleep too. It is easier to watch the game while the kids are sleeping, but it was tough with all the exciting stuff at the beginning – to not cheer too loudly and wake the babies.
But even when they were awake, both kids were great. I do need to bring some little toys for the kids next time – even thought that just means more things for Carson to throw (um, yeah, not enjoying this new phase). So we’ll have to figure something out.
I tried to get some pictures today – but this is all I got.
My silly sweet girl – I promise she loves me.
What happens lately when I try to trick her into smiling by saying “don’t smile”…
Ah, that’s better…
This picture is so freaking funny – I wish I had video of me taking the picture. I pointed the camera at my normally very naturally photogenic son, and my stinkerstein tilted his head and gave me this cheesy look. My mom & I were almost in tears because it was so funny.
Mallory started to lose interest near the end of the third quarter but we stuck it out until the end. Once we started getting packed up to head back to the car, Mallory reminded me that she was supposed to be on my back in the baby carrier and then I am supposed to carry Carson in my arms (this is what happened after every game last year). Needless to say, I got a week’s worth of leg workouts in tonight – my glutes were burning carrying 70lbs all the way back to the car.
So – it was a successful day and so happy to get a win. I’m watching the game again right now – we’re winning 14-0! I’m planning to take the kids to South Bend next weekend; fingers crossed for a repeat of today. GO BLUE!
You go girl! I could never manage both my kids during an entire game. Impressive.
