Mallory

Inhalers and X-rays and Steroids, OH MY!

With the illness that’s been circulating in our casa the past month (I’m about to start another round of antibiotics for my sinus infection and I’m still working on a cough, plus Mallory’s been hacking for a couple of weeks), it’s no wonder that both kids have been coughing really badly the past few days.

Last night was the worst – Mallory sounded HORRIBLE and I almost thought she was going to throw up from coughing so bad (I almost took her to the ER), and Carson has a little barking cough too. So both kids got in with the doctor today and I made Rick meet us just in case I needed help if one of both kids needed breathing treatments or whatever. Carson was cleared of anything major, might just have a little virus but his cough is nothing to worry about.

Mallory on the other hand, is sort of a mess. She still has some junk in her chest – same place as when we were there two weeks ago, so we did another breathing treatment (see – good thing I had RB there). We got a prescription for some more inhaler medicine and a 5-day course of steroids to try to clear this up quickly. Plus we got a prescription for an inhaler that she has to do every day during the winter. The pediatrician thinks she might have a mild form of asthma that is only an issue when she gets a cold in the winter (she doesn’t have problems with coughing when she’s healthy), so this other inhaler is supposed to help with that for the next bunch of months. We also have a referral to go get an x-ray this afternoon because they want to see how it looks compared to her x-rays when she had pneumonia back in February 2009.

Oh, and Rick is getting sick too. I told him he’s on his own – I can only be responsible for the kids.

Updated at 9pm – No pneumonia!

  1. Is the pneumonia you are referring to the same bout she had when you took her skiing? :-)

  2. If your house is anything like our house, RB will be worse than the children when he’s sick! For your sake, I’m crossing my fingers that Rick is not like Josh.

  3. I am sorry to hear about all this – my Lyndsey had the same thing when she was younger- she only had the bouts with ashtma when she had a cold- but she frequently got pneumonia with it often times it lead to mono. I’ll be sending warm fuzzy thoughts your way, hope it gets better soon. Tell Goose I said Hi!
