How to clean your dog

December 21, 2010

Cooper was BEYOND need of a bath, and if you have a dog, you know that the hair from a dog bath is INSANE (especially when you don’t brush the dog regularly…). I refused to let the kids’ bathtub also be the dog washing bathtub, and I FOR SURE wasn’t going to wash him in our bathtub, so Mallory & I took him to the Dog-O-Mat.
Cooper wasn’t very thrilled with being put in the tall bathtub, but lucky for me, they have leash connectors up there so he was tethered in place.
Mallory was supposed to help me, but instead she …

Eyes Wide Open

December 20, 2010

Bedtime continues to be a battle – we want Mallory to go to bed, she doesn’t want to go to bed by herself.
Unfortunately many nights dissolve into me realizing I should go to bed anyway so technically she wins. A lot.
Tonight I came up for bedtime and she was still awake. I told her to close her eyes and GO TO SLEEP.
But she told me she likes to go to sleep with her eyes open.
Whatever.
Just GO TO SLEEP.

Ho ho ho

December 20, 2010

We had a successful trip to see Santa this year. Both kids were happy, but I was irritated with the guy working the Santa picture booth. He said we couldn’t take our own pictures, so we said we’d take the smallest package, got the kids’ picture taken (um, thanks for getting them looking at the camera, numb-skull), and got in line to pay our $16.99 + tax for a 5×7…when a lady walked up with her two kids, told the guy she didn’t need him to take a picture, and promptly – AND RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE GUY – …

Funniest Girl Ever

December 20, 2010

SCENE: Our living room, Sunday morning. Carson is walking around with a fireman hat on backwards (so the big brim thing is over his face, instead of protecting his neck from random fire debris).

STB: “Mallory, look at your brother” and I start shaking my head.
MCB: looks at Carson, starts shaking her head, looks at me and smiles & says “I don’t get him.”

*I think I’ve used this as a post title before. Oh well.

Oh Jingle Bells

December 18, 2010

Mallory continued on with dance class this fall, and while her little tap/ballet class didn’t make the cut for the holiday recital, they still put on a little show for the parents on the last day of class before the Christmas break.
Have to say that she takes after her mama when it comes to dance class. I *always* had to be behind someone else because I could never remember the steps. It was a bad day when I was late to ballet and had to be at the end of the barre because when we faced the direction that made …

Momma Mallory

December 17, 2010

This should be added to my “a day in the life” post…
When we get home from school and come in through the door from the garage, Mallory asks Carson if he wants to shut the door: “Carson, can you shut the door for me? Can you? Oh thanks!”
Then when we get inside, she helps him take his coat & shoes off.
Then she asks him if he wants to play.
Today it was “Carson, do you want to play with your football guys? Do you? Do you want me to play with you? Do you want the field too? Okay!”
After …

Cookies Cookies and More Cookies

December 13, 2010

I think I’ve told y’all before but my sister likes to make a lot of Christmas cookies, so the kids get to decorate a lot of Christmas cookies. They usually get bored after about 10 minutes, and then Emily & I get stuck quickly doing the rest.
I now present to you the 2010 edition of Cookie Decorating.

And then Carson got really bored.

And then we lured him back with some more cookies (the problem is that he’d start to decorate one and then immediately start to eat it…and he plays that “I can’t talk so I obviously don’t understand what you …

A Day in our Life

December 13, 2010

Totally copying this idea from a few other blogs I read…I wish I’d started it when Mallory was born, and done it every 6 months or so. Oh well – better late than never…so here we go!
Our “school-day” mornings usually start with my alarm going off sometime between 5 & 5.30a. If the alarm sounds closer to 5a and actually does the additional job of saying “GET YOUR A$$ IN FRONT OF THE TV AND DO YOUR WORKOUT VIDEO”, I’ll work out and then start getting ready for work.
Then I wake Rick up ~6a, and then the kids. The order …
