The “red sky by night” last night was spectacular – so I (of course) grabbed my camera to see what I could do.
This is what I did. No photoshopping of the background, I promise. When I asked Mallory who it was a picture of, she said “the beauuuuuuutiful princess”.
Here are two more of my silly princess.

Run, Carson, run!

Seasons
Mallory’s teacher told me a funny story about my sweet girl today.
Apparently they were talking about the calendar last week, and how it was August, and the season was summer.
Mrs Paula asked the class what season came after summer. Mallory put her hand up and Mrs Paula called on her.
Mallory’s answer?
“Football season! And then it’s winter!”
Sunflowers & Siblings
I PROMISE YOU that I don’t tell them to hold hands like this. Mallory just reaches her hand out, sometimes telling Carson to hold her hand, but he always does without a fight. I really need to get a good close up of just their hands.
Anywho, I took the kids out to check the sunflowers at Domino’s Farms. Carson was more interested in anything that wasn’t sunflowers, like the cows across the street…that had an electric fence keeping them in. Or Carson out.
So all of us headed across the street – and I couldn’t get any good pictures there because …
A boy & his dog
Yep, still working on that post about our new house.
But here’s another peek…
The other night I couldn’t find the dog anywhere. He’s usually asleep somewhere in my room while I slave away over my computer editing pictures. We have baby gates up so I know he didn’t go downstairs and then I noticed both of the kids doors were open.
I grabbed the flashlight and looked in Mallory’s room first – only things on the floor in there were the piles and piles of clothes I need to go through and put away.
Next up was Carson’s room…and there, …
Is that a bad word?
Oh my sweet girl.
We were talking today about how the football games start in a few weeks, and Mallory said “GO BLUE!” and then she said “GO BUCKEYES!”
I whipped my head around and said “WHAT did you just say?”
“I don’t know”, Mallory replied.
Then she asked “Is that a bad word?”
Rick & I both asked her what she said and she quietly said “Go Buckeyes”, and we had to tell her that yes, that was a very bad word and she better not say it if she wants to go to any football games.
Later on in the day, …
Just three more minutes
Rick’s been out doing yardwork, and Mallory has been watching him from my bedroom window for about 30 minutes. At 8.52p, she asked if she can just stay up and watch a little bit longer, and I told her she could for eight more minutes, since she took a good nap on our way home from up north. She yells out the window “Daddy! Mom said I can watch you for EIGHT MORE MINUTES BECAUSE I TOOK A GOOD NAP IN THE CAR!” and then she ran downstairs to go help him him.
She came back up and asked for …
Field of Dreams
There is the most fabulous park just two blocks from our new house. Two play structures (one big for the big kids and one small for the small kids), a bunch of swings, and a HUGE open field.
The kids & I trekked up there the other day and I made two mistakes. The first mistake was bringing the dog. It was insanely hot and there are no trees near the play structure to tie him up in the shade. The other mistake was letting Mallory ride her bike combined with bringing the dog. We have to adjust her training wheels …
The wonderful thing about Grandpas…
I know I’m telling this whole “we rented the lake house…moved into my dad’s…bought a new house” story all in pieces, and you’ll get it all eventually, I promise. Anyway…
This picture sums up of one of my favorite interactions between my dad & Mallory during the time we lived at my dad’s house. Mallory had already gone to bed (not asleep yet though) and my dad noticed the fireflies were out like CRAZY. He asked if he could get Mallory up to come see them…how can I say no to that?
So my dad & Mals sat there on the edge …
Photoshop Phix
I’ve posted this after picture before but thought I’d share the before.
I usually shoot most of my sessions in RAW but sometimes switch to JPG when I shoot my kids (just to save some processing time on my family snapshots).
Here is this picture, SOOC and converted to JPG:
And here it is fixed.
I know the sky is too light but I don’t care since now I can see her face. If this was for a client, I’d probably work more on not blowing out the sky before I took the picture, since that’s hard to undo, but since it’s just Mallory …
