Mallory

Butterbeer

We went to Islands of Adventure yesterday (more pictures to come) but I wanted to share this picture of Mallory drinking Butterbeer in Harry Potter world yesterday. She was very concerned that it had real beer in it. None of us liked it much (they said it was like shortbread and butterscotch) but we had to at least try it.

She also wants me to read her the Harry Potter books…any advice on if this is a good or bad idea for my 4yr old? I’ve read most of the books and don’t remember the first one being particularly scary. Thoughts?

  1. They wrote books based on the Potter movies? Why?
I think it’d be fine to read her the first book. If you’re reading it to her at least, as you go, you can edit and change things that may seem too scary or inappropriate for her age. I’ll be starting my kid on Misery when it’s born, so I’m sure HP1 will be fine for a 4-5er.

  2. Problem with Harry Potter books is that the first was written with 10yr olds in mind and the last one with 18yr olds in mind. But now a 10 year old can read all of them in one week. Once the teen angst hits it might get boring for her.
