I am a minivan mama.
I almost cried when I drove it off the lot. We didn’t really *need* it – but with the two cars we had (the Accord and the Xterra) we had no room to take anyone other than our family of four. I was never able to help take Mallory’s friends to dance or rock climbing or gymnastics, because we didn’t have room for three carseats in the back seat. And since I drove the Accord most of the time, I had to put Cooper in the front seat if I had to take him anywhere (like to my dad’s for a long football Saturday, etc).
So, we traded in Rick’s Xterra and got a 2009 Honda Odyssey. It has a DVD player for the kids and power sliding doors – the only two things on my “must-have” list. And while I realized that we really only needed more room 10% of the time, it has already been awesome. We took it to Cincy this weekend to see Rick’s mom and the kids zoned out and watched movies the whole trip down & back. Is it dumb that I can’t remember what we did with them before we had a DVD player?
For as old and frumpy as I feel saying I have a minivan, My friend Cindy put it best:
Sam, I got rid of my mini van a few years ago when my kids started driving and was so glad to have a non-mom’s mini van. But now I’d go back, they are so convenient.
