Mallory’s latest

February 10, 2011

Mallory came to work with me the other day – she had a doctor’s appointment here so it was just easier to bring her in with me, walk over for her appointment, and have Rick pick her up than it was to have him bring her at 8.45a, deal with parking, etc.
Mallory loves coming to work with me. She likes the water cooler (and the cone water cups that I find half-full in the roll of blue tape I always have on my desk), she likes the big dry erase board in my office, she needs to use every.single.office.supply …

The explosion is starting

February 10, 2011

Remember that word explosion that the pediatrician told us to expect with Carson’s speech? It’s starting.
I don’t know if there is enough oxygen in my house to support two kids talking as much as Mallory does. We’ll have to see what happens.
Last week Carson started saying “OTT” and holding his hand up for “HOT”. He also has something that sounds like “Mal” for his lovely sister, which cracks me up if that’s what he’s going to call her. I don’t know why it cracks me up, but it does.
Late last week he started doing “ooh ooh ah …

I love Michigan

February 6, 2011

I am belatedly blogging these pictures from February – I don’t think I ever posted them back then. (And I’m posting them at the tail end of the a huge heat wave where we have had weeks and weeks of 90* weather…I really love all the seasons!!!)
The park near our house has a little hill just perfect for sledding. We trudged through the snow from the Blizzard of 2011 and took the kids to the park. Mallory LOVED it and Carson sort of liked it, but he REALLY liked sliding down the slide and landing on his bum in the …

Hello & Goodbye

February 5, 2011

Another goofy by my baby boy.
He has two different waves for hello & goodbye.
Hello is a side-to-side like windshield wipers.
Goodbye is open & close of the hand.

A Sad Light

February 5, 2011

I love the kids’ daycare. I think I’ve said that before. But really I do. I love the arts & crafts that they do, because it means I don’t need to be super creative at home. I love that they get outside twice a day (weather permitting), because it means I don’t have to be super motivated to do it when it’s cold & dark in the winter.
Each week at school is a different theme, and  Mallory’s class does lots of crafts to coincide with the theme of the week; it’s pretty funny to see the stuff she comes home …

My Sweet Boy

February 5, 2011

Boring post title for a cute story. Whatevs.
For the past few months, Carson starts to stir around 4a or 5a in the morning. Because we don’t him to wake Mallory with his stirring, we usually bring him to our bed where he likes to lay on top of me with his legs spread over my hips. He usually falls right back to sleep that way, but because I don’t like to sleep on my back, I usually lay there, wide awake, trying to listen to his breathing to decide when I can safely roll him to the side so …

Meatheads

February 5, 2011

Rick got on this kick of telling Mallory her how big her muscles are getting after she eats her veggies. So now – during almost every meal – she shows us how big her muscles are getting – “LOOK AT MY MUSCLES”

And of course Carson has to get in on it too. The best is that now he will initiate it during dinner. Which is hysterical, of course.

I have to share this picture – Mallory was headed outside and I told Carson he needed to put on his coat because he needed a hood if he wanted to go outside. …

Latest Funnies

February 4, 2011

Mallory calls the UPS truck the PRESENT truck.
Yesterday morning getting Carson dressed for school, he was standing on his changing table after getting dressed. He still had his paci in his mouth and he was twirling it around. I asked him if I could have his paci to put back in his bed. He started to smile behind his paci, then he pulled it out and laughed and said NO!, and replaced his paci, while still giving me a grin.
The best is this email I got from daycare this morning: “…Carson was such a good friend yesterday to …

The day our daycare was closed

February 2, 2011

Mallory & Carson’s daycare NEVER closes for weather. We’ve been going there for four years and one month, and not once have they closed. They have, however, been closed a handful of times because of lost power – and it’s always been in the summer. So any time regular schools are closed, our daycare is still open, and I force myself to go to work because I hate wasting vacation days.
Then came February 1. News of a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY! followed by WINTER STORM WARNINGS! which was trumped by BLIZZARD WARNINGS! caused our daycare to announce that they would be …
