Green Day

March 18, 2011

Be sure you see the videos at the bottom of this post…
I’m a little slow on the “have fun and make everything green” uptake for St Patrick’s Day. Reading about how other families have leprechauns wreaking havoc on their house for St Patty’s Day – I need someone to remind me next March 13-ish that I want to do that, K?
But I had fun with our St Patrick’s Day dinner! I wasn’t sure how green food coloring + orange mac & cheese would turn out, but lucky for me green food coloring is dominant.

Mallory drank her green milk too fast …

Nightime

March 17, 2011

It’s no secret that we let Mallory fall asleep in our bed (like almost every single night). The deal is that Rick moves her to her own bed when he comes to bed, and she usually makes that transition without waking up (but it’s pretty funny how she sometimes stirs when he goes to move her and then she ends up just staying in our bed all night).
Anyway.
So – we (or rather I) let her fall asleep in our bed at bedtime because I feel it is the lesser of two evils. I LOVE sleep, and I sort of want …

It’s RACE DAY!

March 14, 2011

Mallory was BEYOND EXCITED to run her first race yesterday – she did the Kids Dash in the Conor O’Neill’s “Shamrocks & Shenanigans” race. I think Rick & I spent some time in Conor O’Neill’s back in the day, so it was hysterical to be in there with the kids before the race. Mallory asked where the crayons were and I assumed that my old haunt would *never* have crayons, for God’s sake, it’s a BAR! But, I guess they get kids in there now (probably because it’s non-smoking?) and they did have crayons. Phew.
Anyway, Mallory was running the race …

A biscuit, a basket

March 13, 2011

Michigan hockey is playing in the CCHA playoffs this weekend and we’ve watched some of the games. Rick was off painting, so after Michigan scored a goal, I told her to go tell daddy that Michigan put the biscuit in the basket.
I’m in the midst of a 30-day challenge with my neighbor and 13 straight days of doing an insane workout – on top of playing hockey the other day – my whole body, and my knees specifically, have been killing me.
After my workout today, I told Mallory (who insists on working out with me every day), “My …

Pure Fashion

March 12, 2011

Short-sleeve brown shirt, pink satin-y princess vest, purple fleece vest, paired with a tiered fuchsia skirt, footless cream-colored tights, white socks and brown shoes. Pure fashion, I say.

Like sister like brother

March 12, 2011

Carson can’t NOT do everything his sister does, even when it makes absolutely no sense.
Take this morning, for instance – Mallory had finished her cereal and was drinking the milk from her bowl (c’mon, you know everyone does that).
Carson, not to be outdone, lifted his bowl to his mouth too. But he only had dry cereal in it.
And then there was dry cereal all over the floor.

My mom’s the goalie

March 10, 2011

I am playing hockey tonight. Of course Mallory said she wants to come watch. Seeing as how the game is almost too late for me (9.15p usually finds me heading upstairs for bed), it was really too late for Mallory.
But Mallory asked me why I always put my water bottle in my mitten for the back of the net.
* * *
Also, any conversation about sports almost always morphs into “who would we root for?”.
Like – “If the Hawkeyes and Ohio were playing, we would want Hawkeyes, right?” and “If Ohio and Michigan State were playing, then we …

23 Months

March 10, 2011

We are just over three weeks away from my baby boy’s second birthday. My baby is almost TWO! I can’t even begin to talk about how sad it makes me. Every day that he learns something new – like walking down steps and not wanting/needing to hold my hand – means he’s that much father away from being my baby.
So even though it makes me super sad, I still laugh at him a lot. He will sit and read books now – last weekend he was perched in his sister’s pink beanbag, “reading” his Wolverine book.
Last night I recorded us …

You hurt my ears

March 9, 2011

This morning when I got Carson up, his diaper was totally dry. I thought I’d put him on the potty for a minute and see if he’d go. His teachers have been putting him on the potty at school for a while because he has shown an interest because most of the other kids in his class are working on getting potty trained, but as far as I know, he’s never gone at school.
Anyway, back to this morning. After I asked if he wanted to go, he said “uh, YEAH!” and walked right over to the little potty, sat down …

Profession

March 7, 2011

Rick emailed me this, with the description that Mallory said it yesterday (I’m assuming he emailed himself so he could remember it):

“If you swallow a candle it will burn your heart. Then you will have to swallow a band-aid to make it better.”

I forwarded it to some people so they could see how funny Mallory is.
My dad wrote back:

“I think you should steer her away from medicine.  Sounds like an engineer.”

I think I’m not sure who is funnier, my dad or Mallory.
