The past two nights are the first nights in forever that Mallory didn’t fall asleep in our bed and didn’t have a fit about it.
We just set up the little toddler bed in Carson’s room, because we think he’s getting close to trying to climb out of his crib. Carson thought his new bed was pretty cool, but chose his crib at bedtime.
Mallory, however, wanted to sleep in the little bed in his room so we let her. Rick and I are still amazed that we didn’t hear one word from either of them and they both fell right asleep (except Carson woke at like 12.30a, but that was unrelated to Mallory being in his room, unless she was snoring or something?).
Tonight she found the tent that she got for Christmas a few years back (it had been in my dad’s basement since we moved out last summer).
She promptly declared that she was going to sleep in it tonight.
And sleep she did. We heard NOTHING from her at bedtime. I was shocked!
I just went to check on her and she was still in her tent, in her sleeping bag, with the door zipped up. She must have gotten hot though because the fan was right outside the zippered doors of the tent, and that’s not where it was when I set it up.
Edited to add: it’s now 6.43a and Mallory is still asleep in her tent. I’m going to work this angle for as long as I can. I realized tonight that one of the things I loved about her falling asleep in our bed was that she was an energy-free heating pad for my spot in the bed. While this was fantastic when it was freezing out, it’s not ideal when it’s hot out, like it’s sort of starting to be.
I also want to add that Carson is starting to moan in his bed right now. I love those noises he makes, especially since we finally learned that it doesn’t mean his wakeup is imminent, but rather that he is just stretching and growing in his sleep. Well, sometimes it means he’s about to wake up and I will say I like being awakened by his stretching moans than by his crying!
I go with the Whatever Works method, too. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I might have to try the tent method.
